UVA LOSES LINE COACH

Jim Bollman, an assistant football coach at the University of Virginia the past four seasons, has accepted a position under new Michigan State coach Nick Saban.

Bollman, who coached the centers and offensive guards for UVa, will work under new Spartans' offensive coordinator Gary Tranquill. Tranquill has been offensive coordinator for the past season at Virginia Tech.

Tranquill was on the UVa staff from 1987-90, but did not work with Bollman. Indeed, Bollman took the spot on the Cavaliers' staff vacated when Tranquill went to the Cleveland Browns after the 1991 season.

nRadford's Ian Spooner and Virginia's Mike Fisher and Brandon Pollard were named to the Division I All-South Atlantic Region soccer team. Spooner, the Big South Conference player of the year, tallied 16 goals and four assists for the Highlanders. Fisher, a midfielder, and Pollard, a back, helped lead the Cavaliers to this weekend's NCAA semifinal round.

The Roanoke Express has traded forward Carl Fleury to the Erie Panthers for defenseman Andrei Kozlov. Fleury had one goal and one assist in 16 games for the Express. Kozlov, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound second-year pro from Russia, played eight games for the Panthers, tallying one assist.

Former Roanoke Express captain Dave "Moose" Morisette will return to Roanoke for a promotional night on Dec. 20. Morissette, a player with the International Hockey League's Minnesota Moose, will be a part of festivities during Moose Morissette Poster Night before Roanoke's game with the Charlotte Checkers.
