MARTINSVILLE ON TRACK FOR '95

Martinsville Speedway will open its 48th season with a Late Model Stock Car race on March 15, 1995.

The Miller Genuine Draft 300 will be NASCAR's richest Late Model Stock race, with $25,000 going to the winner.

The drivers will practice and run time trials March 14, with the 20 fastest cars earning starting positions. The rest of the 36-car field will come from two 50-lap qualifying races, the first of which starts at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The 200-lap main event will follow.

Lew Kent has been named to succeed Scott Gines as Radford University's baseball coach, the school announced.

Kent, 31, will coach the team on an interim basis during the 1995 season. After the season, the position will be advertised.

Before joining the Highlanders' staff, Kent was an assistant coach at North Carolina State. Gines left to become head coach at VMI, his alma mater.
