FLEMING GETS BACK AT E.C. GLASS, 66-49

Derrick Hines and Keath Hampton each scored eight points as William Fleming gained revenge for its only loss of the season with a 66-49 victory over E.C. Glass on Tuesday night in a non-district boys' game.

The Colonels (3-1) were ahead 36-17 at halftime and coasted from there.

Glass (1-2) was paced by Andre Kendrick, with 16 points.

Cave Spring 62

DANVILLE - The Eagles frittered away a 12-point first-quarter lead, then bolted away after halftime for a non-district victory over the Knights in non-district action.

GW (1-2) outscored Cave Spring 25-11 in the decisive third period.

Matt Matheny led the Knights (1-3) with 21 points.

DALEVILLE - Shannon Williams had 19 points to lead three double-figure scorers as the Cavaliers pounded the Eagles in a non-district game.

Lord Botetourt (3-1) got 16 points from Jonathan Neal, including 10 in a 24-point second quarter.

Mark Arbogast led Roanoke Valley Christian (4-1) with 19 points.

CHATHAM - Tony Joyce scored 19 points and P.L. Bratton grabbed 19 rebounds to go with his 13 points, but the Celtics lost their Virginia Independent Conference opener on the road.

Catholic (1-2, 0-1) made only 18 of 32 free throws.

SHAWSVILLE - The Knights, despite fourth-quarter problems at the free-throw line, held on for their first victory of the season.

Shawsville (0-3) trailed by 12 points entering the fourth quarter, but closed to 45-43 with two minutes left in the non-district game. On their next two possessions, the Shawnees committed turnovers.

James River (1-3) aided Shawsville's comeback by missing the front ends of three one-and-ones in the final two minutes. Shawsville's Cory Dow had a game-high 14 points.

Craig County 59

NEW CASTLE - Sean Riddick hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead the Indians past the Rockets in a non-district game.

Riddick, who finished with 24 points and six 3-pointers, helped Covington Boys' Home break a 43-43 tie early in the fourth quarter.

Kenny Prescott scored 17 points for the Indians.

Robbie Huffman led Craig County with 21 points.

LYNCHBURG - Felicia Manns fed Lakeisha Burwell for a layup with 50 seconds left, keeping the Colonels unbeaten and the Hilltoppers winless.

E.C. Glass (0-3) couldn't muster a shot in the final seconds of the non-district matchup.

Kelly Irving led William Fleming (3-0) with 10 points. Erin Reid and Beth Mallot had 10 each for Glass.

The Knights trailed after one quarter, but got rolling in the second period behind Aimee Beightol's nine points and went on to beat the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game.

Cave Spring (1-1, 1-0), which trailed 17-14, went to a half-court trap and outscored Franklin County 19-3 in the second quarter.

Beightol led all scorers with 17 points. Jaclyn Banks had 13 and Cheryl Rhodes added 11 for the Knights.

Renee Claybourne led the Eagles (3-1, 0-1) with 12 points and Susie Wilson had 10.

Timberlake Christian 35

LYNCHBURG - The Eagles held Timberlake to four points in the first quarter as Roanoke Valley Christian (6-0, 2-0) remained undefeated in the Blue Ridge Conference.

Timberlake (0-2, 0-2) made a late run, scoring 22 points in the second half. The Eagles nailed nine of twelve free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the game.

Gina Guthrie led all scorers with 15 points for the Eagles. Rebecca Bryant added 12 to the RVC cause.

Julie Farriss led Timberlake with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Kelly Hylton added 12.
