IN SCHOOL

DREAMA DENISE TOWE, daughter of Daniel and Elaine Towe of Salem, recently was elected student council representative for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia.

Towe, a junior majoring in foreign affairs, will serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration, faculty and Charlottesville community.

A graduate of Salem High School, Towe also has served on the dining services, student advisory and appropriations committees.

SALEM HIGH SCHOOL has announced the names of four students who have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board in recognition of exceptional achievement on placement examinations.

They are: Brent Sower, a Byrd and Monroe scholar at the College of William and Mary, who received an International Baccalaureate Diploma in July; and seniors Trent Edwards and Eric McMillan, and junior Abigail Johnson, all candidates for the international baccalaureate diploma.

JENNIFER SOSNOWSKI and TRENT EDWARDS, Salem High School students, are semifinalists in the 1995 National Merit Scholarship competition.

They were chosen from about 50,000 academically talented students to compete for scholarships that will be awarded in the spring.

ASHLEY THOMPSON, daughter of Prince and Cathy Thompson of Roanoke, has been included in ''Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.''

Thompson is a senior at James Madison University, where she is majoring in psychology. She also is an emergency medical technician with the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad.

VIRGINIA COLLEGE has announced the names of Roanoke-area students who have completed graduation requirements and those who were named to the president's list during the fall semester.

Those completing graduation requirements are: William A. Gunter, Michael R. Moore and Jonathan Sesay, all of Roanoke, and Patricia G. Sellers of Troutville.

Those named to the president's list are: Thomas E. Alderson, Kenneth M. Archer, William C. Dalton, Roty S. Dean, Brent S. Good, Jason W. Hale, Janet A. Johnson, Daniel L. Lewis III, Samuel G. Overstreet Jr., Amy D. Short, Edsel D. Stanley Jr., Darrell K. Trent, Hardin D. Yeuell, Damon A. Clement, David N. Cocram, Jonathan A. Dillon, Robert B. Huddleston III, John T. Kamara, Rodney E. Soldorfen, Sheila A. Welch, Barry L. Wilburn and Michael J. Wittmeier, all of Roanoke; Tina M. Aktkinson, Patricia E. Sloan and James A. Wright, all of Roanoke; Joseph H. McGhee of Vinton; and Kenneth W. Smith of New Castle.

WILLIAM ZACHARY KRAUSE, son of Richard and Rosemary Krause of Roanoke, recently was named the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen for Cave Spring High School.

Krause, a senior, was selected based on his dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
