ALTRUIST CLUB TO PRESENT 10 AT DEBUTANTE BALL

The Altruist Club has presented more than 1,500 debutantes in the last 42 years, and at its 1994 Debutante Ball, the club will add 10 names to that list.

The theme for the Dec. 28 ball at the Roanoke Airport Merriott Inn is "Earth's Angels."

Darren Haley, a Roanoker who recently earned his law degree from Washington and Lee University, will be the grand marshal.

Charles A. Price, vice president of Payne Construction Co., will serve as honorary chairman, and Altruist Club charter member Antoinette "Toni" Hale will be the honorary co-chairwoman .

The club is honoring Hale for "The Debutante," a painting she did several years ago as a tribute to the more than four decades of volunteer work the Altruist Club has done for youth. The painting hangs in the Roanoke Art Museum in Center in the Square.

Hale also served as pianist for the cotillion for more than 30 years. During much of that time, she lived on the West Coast, but returned to Roanoke each year to play at the ball.
