FORT CHISWELL TOPS NARROWS

Jody Burnett sank a basket with nine seconds left as Fort Chiswell edged Narrows 69-67 in a Mountain Empire District boys' high school basketball game Monday night.

Burnett finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (6-4 overall, 2-0 Mountain Empire).

The teams played closely throughout until Fort Chiswell took an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter. Narrows pulled to two as the Pioneers missed five free throws late in the final period. After Burnett's basket, Patrick Bailey missed a shot to tie the score for the Green Wave.

Scott Vaught scored 19 to lead Narrows, and Bailey added 18.

Tony Chrisley had 16 for Fort Chiswell.
