ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Inflation of 0.2 percent last month left the Consumer Price Index unchanged at the end of December.

The small increase in the cost of living left the index at 149.7 at year-end, the same as at the end of November.

The index was 145.8 at the end of 1993, for a year-long rise in the cost of living in 1994 of 2.7 percent.

That meant that a collection of goods and services that cost $145.80 a year ago would have cost $149.70 at the end of last month.

The CPI uses the 1982-1984 period as its index base. If the government were still using 1967 as the 100-base index year, the same basket of goods and services would cost $448.40, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
