CLASSIC COUNTRY VALENTINE GREETINGS

New River Valley sweethearts can exchange FREE VALENTINE'S DAY GREETINGS over the air on Classic Country WRAD (1460 AM) and CD Country WRIQ (101.7 FM). The stations invite listeners to record 30-second valentines and at the same time to register for prizes, including gift certificates from Wade's Supermarkets.

Valentines will air Feb. 8 through Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, and listeners will be told the exact time their love messages will go out over the airwaves.

Station announcers will record messages for shy valentines. Listeners also may write and record their own messages or use one of the samples the stations can provide.

To get their Valentine's Day message on the air, listeners need to visit one of the "Sweetheart Stops" at these Wade's Supermarkets, where the stations will be broadcasting live:

Feb. 4, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Pulaski and 3:30-5:30 p.m. in Pearisburg.

Feb. 9, 4-6 p.m. at the North Main Street store and 5-7 p.m. at the South Main Street store, Blacksburg.

Feb. 10, 4-6 p.m. in Dublin and 5-7 p.m. in Christiansburg.

Sunday is SUPER BOWL SUNDAY, and if you can't stand to watch the game on television, KOOL Country WBNK (100.7 FM) and WNRV (990 AM) will carry the action at 5:45 p.m. The 29th annual Super Bowl features the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers against the AFC champion San Diego Chargers. 382-6106.

Wednesday, they travel to Richmond to take on Virginia Commonwealth University, and Saturday, they're back in Radford against Towson State. Air time for all games is 7:10 p.m. on WPSK (107.1 FM). "On the Bench with Coach Ron Bradley:" Radford University's basketball preview show airs on game days at 9:50 a.m. and 5:50 p.m. on WPSK (107.1 FM).

"Winston Cup Today:" Weekdays at 8:45 a.m. on WFNR (710 AM) and 6 p.m. on WPSK (107.1 FM). "Winston Cup This Week" is heard Saturdays, 7:30-8 a.m. on WFNR.

Blacksburg Indians basketball: Tuesday, the Indians are at home against the Pulaski Cougars. Saturday, they meet Alleghany. Air time for both games is 5:45 p.m. on WKEX (1430 AM). Bob Smith does the play-by-play with help from Kelly Haughton.

Eagle Country 107 WPSK (107.1 FM), goes after a world country line-dancing record today at 4 at New River Valley Mall to benefit Karen Board, a cancer sufferer who needs money to pay for a bone-marrow transplant. The goal is to break the world's record for the number of people participating in an amateur country line dance, currently 30,000 according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Levi Garrett of KOOL Country WBNK (100.7 FM) and WNRV (990 AM) turned out to be the Muscular Dystrophy Association's top money-raising jailbird last Tuesday. Garrett's hour-long stay in the MDA's lockup in Blacksburg raised $927 for the charity. 382-6106.

Starting Monday, CD Country WRIQ (101.7 FM) and CD Country WRAD (1460 AM) broadcast the Virginia Lottery Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings. The drawings air Monday through Saturday at 2 p.m. on WRIQ and at 2:05 p.m., right after Associated Press news, on WRAD. 639-2461.
