VINTON PUBLIC HEARING PLANNED

Vinton Town Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday to receive comment on a community development block grant application primarily to benefit the Midway area.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in the council meeting room in the town municipal building.

No residents showed up for a hearing on the subject Feb. 7. The only speaker was Randy Austin, a consultant working with the town to prepare the application.

The grant would be used primarily for general community improvement in the Midway area in the western part of town. Included would be sewer and water systems, streets and housing.

Carolyn S. Ross, Vinton council clerk, said the town applied unsuccessfully for the same grant in 1993 and 1994. No money figure has been set for the new application, but she predicted it would be for about the same amount as the other applications, about $1.25 million.
