Training award entries

DUBLIN - Entries are being sought for the 1995 New River Valley Training Excellence Awards, sponsored by the New River Community College Center for Training and Development.

Awards will be given in manufacturing, retail and service categories.

Organizations can make only one entry for a training program held during 1994. The entry deadline is March 17.

Awards will be presented at the annual center banquet in April.

CHRISTIANSBURG - Montgomery County Public Schools invite you to be a guest reader for children during the fourth annual family literacy celebration.

Interested readers can sign up for 15-minute time slots.

Bring your favorite book or choose one at the event at the New River Valley Mall on Saturday.

The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Thrift shop moves

BLACKSBURG - The YMCA Thrift Shop has a new location in Gables Shopping Center and is looking for clothes, furniture, toys and other items for the shelves.

If you have something to donate, drop it off between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Careers presentation

BLACKSBURG - Careers in public administration is the subject of a presentation today at the Donaldson-Brown Continuing Education Center.

Sponsored by the Southwest Virginia Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration, the meeting will feature Laura Bullock from the Virginia Department of Transportation, John Chambliss from Roanoke County and Stephen Duncan of VPM Corporation.

The meeting starts at 4 p.m.
