CHASE ENDS WITH CRASH, ARREST

A Christiansburg man led police officers and deputies early Saturday on a chase through two counties, ramming police cars several times before crashing on Interstate 81 near Radford.

David Michael Dudley, 26, was held in Montgomery County Jail on $100,000 bond, charged with eight counts of attempted malicious wounding of a police officer, one count of possession of marijuana and one count of reckless driving, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

Police said Dudley, with a passenger in his car, failed to stop for a Christiansburg officer just before 4 a.m. and drove onto Peppers Ferry Road into Montgomery County, where deputies joined the chase.

The pursuit continued into Pulaski County, about seven miles from Christiansburg, then flip-flopped, with police pursuing Dudley's car back into Christiansburg, onto U.S. 460 and then onto I-81. Police stopped Dudley when his car and a deputy's collided near Radford.

Dudley and his passenger were treated for minor injuries at Radford Community Hospital. His car was totaled; damage to the deputy's car was estimated at $2,500.
