OPENING OF NEW CHURCH A FESTIVE EVENT

GRACE COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH celebrates homecoming and open house at its new church, 2101 Shadow Lake Road, Blacksburg, with a variety of festivities this weekend and next. Today, 3-5 p.m., former Grace Covenant members now serving as missionaries hold a panel discussion.

Sunday, dedication of the church's new $500,000 building begins at 9:30 a.m. Several former pastors and the Rev. Gordon Woolard, the present minister, will participate.

The Rev. Scott McCormick Jr. - author of the recently published book "Behold the Man: Re-reading Gospels, Re-humanizing Jesus" - preaches Sunday, 11 a.m., at Presbyterian Church of Radford, 201 Fourth St. A coffee follows the service, and McCormick will autograph copies of his book, an historical analysis of the popular theological images of Jesus.

McCormick was the minister at Tyler Memorial Church from 1958 to 1965.
