VMI WINS STAR CITY CLASSIC

VMI snapped a two-game losing streak Tuesday night and had a plaque to show for it.

Junior attackman Joe Brockman had eight points, including five goals, to lead the Keydets past Radford 19-10 in the inaugural Star City Lacrosse Classic in Roanoke.

The game was organized by VMI's local alumni chapter, which hopes to make it an annual event at the River's Edge Sports Complex. Keydets' coach Doug Bartlett said the ``classic'' may be moved to a Saturday next year and involve four teams in a double-header.

It was the sixth straight loss for the Highlanders (2-7), who were coming off a 14-7 loss Sunday to Air Force Academy, a team that defeated VMI 19-12 on Saturday.

The score was tied at 2-2 before the Keydets (5-2) scored six goals in the second period to take an 8-4 lead. VMI led by as much as 17-5 in the final period.

Freshman Chris Karppala led the Highlanders with four goals.
