NAMES & CHANGES

Watkins heads electric co-op

RONALD W. WATKINS has been named president and chief executive officer of Old Dominion Electric Cooperative and the Virginia, Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives.

Old Dominion, based in Glen Allen, provides wholesale power to 12 electric distribution cooperatives in the three states including Alleghany, Bath, Bedford and Rockbridge counties in Virginia. VMDAEC provides communications, legislative services, safety and management training and support to 15 electric co-ops in the three states, serving customers in Alleghany, Bath, Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Giles, Montgomery and Roanoke counties.

A 29-year veteran of the electric utility industry, Watkins had been president and chief executive officer of the Nebraska Public Power District since May 1989.

BANKING

JEANETTE SMITH of Roanoke has been promoted to vice president of Crestar Bank. Smith joined the bank in 1986 and was promoted to assistant vice president and branch manager of the Tanglewood office in 1989. She is branch manager of the Vinton office. Also at Crestar, DANNY TRENOR has been named assistant vice president. He joined the bank in 1978. He has been a branch manager for the Parkside office and an assistant branch manager of the Vinton and Williamson Road offices in Roanoke, and is branch manager for Crestar's Tanglewood office.

NOEL L. CHITWOOD has been named senior vice president of Piedmont Trust Bank in Martinsville. He joined Piedmont in 1991 as senior commercial loan officer and was elected vice president and manager of the commercial division in 1994.

CONSTRUCTION

C. WAYNE HALL has been promoted to vice president of the bridge division at Branch Highways Inc., a highway contractor based in Roanoke. He formerly was vice president of McDowell & Wood. Hall, who has been in the bridge building industry for 35 years, joined Branch Highways in 1991 as a project manager.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

BRENDA BRINKLEY has been named continuing education coordinator for Radford University at its office on the campus of Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke. Brinkley will provide information and support to students enrolled in Radford's upper division courses taught at the Roanoke location.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

CHARLES C. PEEBLES JR. has been promoted to vice president of Scott & Stringfellow Inc. Peebles, who is an investment broker, joined the Lexington office of the Richmond-based investment firm in 1992 from Hutter Corp. Also, DALONA "DALE" HOYT has been named an assistant vice president. He joined Scott & Stringfellow's Roanoke office in 1987 from Hillard Lyons where he was an operations assistant.

HOSPITALITY

TRYG BRODY has been appointed sales manager for The Homestead resort hotel in Hot Springs. Brody comes to the resort from Winston-Salem, N.C., where he was assistant director of the college fund for Wake Forest University. Before that, he was with the sports marketing department of the College Football Association in Boulder, Colo.

INSURANCE

ERIK K. RASANEN has been named vice president of individual marketing and sales at Shenandoah Life Insurance Co. in Roanoke. Rasanen was vice president of marketing at Columbian Mutual for 11 years, and before that, was with Sentry Life and Travelers insurance companies.

MANUFACTURING

TAMEA FRANCO, president of East West Dyecom Inc., has been named a member of the Manufacturing Jewelers and Silversmiths of America. The Roanoke company, which was founded in 1987, anodizes aluminum locally for commercial industries and has a captive product line which is sold internationally.

MEDICINE

DR. JOHN L. HINES has joined Vista Eye Center in Roanoke. Hines specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous, including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

JERRY GILMORE was recently selected chief of psychology service at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Gilmore was a staff psychologist at the medical center until 1993, when he was named assistant chief of psychology service. He has also been director of training since 1990. His interests include trauma and the psychological aspects of chronic physical illness and rehabilitation.

VETERINARY MEDICINE

DR. CHARLES C. HARRIS, owner of Harris Animal Hospital in Roanoke, was named Veterinarian of the Year by the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association. Harris is a member of the American Veterinary Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and the Roanoke Valley Veterinary Medical Association.
