TOWN-COUNTY COOPERATION TAKES ANOTHER JUMP IN DUBLIN

The county's proposed 1995-96 budget includes $100,000 to rent space in the new Dublin Town Center.

Town Manager Gary Elander told Dublin Town council Thursday night that the county likely would rent space in the town hall to provide county services in the area.

Another area of town-county cooperation, Elander said, may be having a town worker read county utility meters in the eastern part of the county, with the county reimbursing the town for the work. Both the town and county are losing a meter reader, and the new town reader, when hired, might do both jobs.

The town also is being required to inspect places where there is any danger of cross-connections of water lines and other kinds of lines, such as those connected to chemical tanks, Elander said. The county already has an inspector for this kind of work, and Elander said the town may contract with that person to do the work in Dublin.

Council approved the Key Advantage health insurance program for town employees, which will include dental coverage. Elander said that will allow the town to save the $7,000 per year now spent on a separate dental program, and result in a net saving of $4,000 over current costs even though the new health program is a bit higher than the present one.

The program will encourage employees to use a primary care physician, by reimbursing them for 80 percent of medical costs if they do and 75 percent otherwise.

Some 1,000 households and businesses throughout Dublin soon will be getting special town calendars, most delivered in person by town representatives.

The calendars run from April 1995, through March 1996. In addition to the usual holidays, special days and other observances, they list all meeting dates for Dublin Town Council, the town Planning Commission and the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors along with information such as deadlines for vehicle decals and local taxes and when daylight-saving time starts and ends.

The back of each monthly page has a different section of the report on town activities for 1994, including the activities of council, town departments and agencies, and facts and figures about the town.
