BIKE RACE JUST PART OF A BUSY WEEKEND

A day away from the Blacksburg's annual date with the biggest bicycling event in the country, the town is already shifting into gear.

Here's some of the things going on today and Sunday in connection with the town's stage 4 finish of the Tour DuPont:

The Lyric Theatre will be open today with bands playing from 2:30-9:30 p.m. Popcorn, cokes and T-shirts will be on sale, as they will Sunday.

A series of "fun runs" for all ages will be held from 10-11 a.m. today at the commuter parking lot on Prices Fork Road. From 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. a bicycle rodeo, bicycle demonstrations and safety checks will be proceeding, too.

At noon today, a social ride of 10-15 miles will start at the parking lot, and at 12:30 p.m. a family bicycle ride of 1-2 miles begin.

Traffic information will be broadcast Sunday on radio station 1610 AM.

Tour Downtown, another of Blacksburg's festivals of foods, crafts and music, will be happening all day Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The racers will be hitting town around 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
