BASS, Joseph Lindsey, 64, of Speedwell, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was Service Man for the Wythe Fuel Service. He is survived by his wife, Jettie Kincer Bass, Speedwell; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Jo Bass, Dawn and Jeff Lowe, all of Speedwell; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Mickey and Tena Bass, Cripple Creek, Lynn Bass, Rural Retreat, Bootie and Renia Bass, Wytheville, Mark and Sandy Bass, Max Meadows, Terry Bass, Wytheville; 8 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, in the Speedwell United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Richard Collins and the Rev. Patricia Edwards with the interment to follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Memoria l Service conducted by Mr. Airy Lodge #226 AF & AM at 8:30 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel. BLIZZARD, Albert Roy, 82, of Marion, died Monday, May 1, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, Barnett Funeral Home Chapel.

BRUMMETT, Junior Lee, 63, of Blacksburg, passed away Monday, May 1, 1995, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born on August 18, 1931, in Washington County, Va. and retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence G. Brammett. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Geraldine Statzer Brammett; four daughters and sons-in-la w, Vivian and Rick Woodruff, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Darlene and Mike Williams, Pembroke, Neda and Frank Rudisill, Willis, Eva and Steve Nolen, Riner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Brummett, Blacksburg, Darrell and Hope Brummett, Check, and Byran Brummett, Blacksburg; also a future daughter-in-law, Susan Pascoe; mother, Rosie Brummett Lang, Mendota; one brother, Marvin E. Brummett, Mendota; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lula and Fred Hughes, Newton, N.C., Louis and Raymond Lang, Abingdon; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; several nieces and nephews and many special friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Christiansburg with the Rev. Roy U. Turpin and the Rev. Everette Shepherd officiating. CARROLL, Wesley E., 79, of Belspring, died Monday, May 1, 1995, in a Radford hospital. He was a life long resident of Belspring. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army, and a retired employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Nora Dobbins Carroll, two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his wife, Violet Doss Carroll, Belspring; a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Louise Carroll, Texarkana, Ark.; a brother, Ed Carroll, Radford; a sister, Nell C. Duncan, Belspring; three grandchildren, Dean Carroll, Patrick Air Force Base; Shendale Carroll, Dublin, Jessica Carroll, Ra dford; two stepgrandchildren, Beth Shelton and Steve Hughes; many special nieces and nephews; and close sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parrott United Methodist Church with the Rev. Will Shewey and the Rev. Albert Carroll, Jr. officiating. CARTER, Ruby Cates, 102, of Salem, died Monday, May 1, 1995. She was a member of New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Roanoke. She was a founding teacher of the Manual College, formerly known as Franklin Springs Institute, in Franklin Springs, Ga., where she had taught music from 1919 to 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. W. W. Carter, a former superintendent of the Appalachian Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Reva M. Kesling and Frances L. Carter, both of Salem, Ju ne and Rev. Elvio Canavesio, Coconut Creek, Fla.; a sister, Martha Terrell, Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Sherry and Bill Humphrey, Woodbridge, Lenny and Marianne Kesling, Santa Rose, Calif., Terry and Pam Kesling, Pikeville, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; eight nieces; five nephews; numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the New Life Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Walter L. Wood, assisted by Glennard Quesenberry. FIX, E. Marion, 52, of Lexington, died Tuesday, May 2, 1995. Born February 25, 1943, in Rockbridge Co., he was the son of Kathryn Sensabaugh Fix of Lexington, and the late Edwin Madison Fix. Mr. Fix was owner and operator of Marion's Auto-Truck Repair. Surviving, beside his mother, are his wife, Juanita B. Fix, Lexington; two daughters, Melanie D. Fix, Lexington, Melissa D. FRIEL, Ann Lewis, 61, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 1995. Ann was a graduate of Madison College and was the guidance counselor at Roanoke Catholic School for past 21 years. She was preceded in death by her husband David J. Friel. Surviving are her son, Paul V. Friel, Roanoke; her mother, Eunice M. HENKEL, George Smith, 76, of Clifton Forge, died Monday, May 1, 1995, at Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Waynesboro on May 4, 1918, son of the late Tilden O. and Lula Smith Henkel. He was a retired engineer for CSX Transporation with 42 years of service, member of Waynesboro Lutheran Church, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and served in U.S. Navy during WW II. He is survived by his wife, Louise McCormick Carter Henkel, Clifton Forge; one son, Paul Henkel, Roanoke; a stepson, Charles R. Carter, Glasgow; one brother, Sutton Henkel, Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, David and Sarah Henkel; three stepgrandchildren, Joey Carter, Billy Joe Carter, and Charles Carter Jr.; a number of nieces and nephew. LASUS, Thelmagene Kessinger, 70, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away Friday, April 28, 1995. She was a native of Blacksburg, Va. and had lived in Round Rock for the past five years. Mrs. Lasus was a housewife and held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Lasus of Round Rock; daughters, Linda Stephenson and husband Ronald C. of Lafayette, La. and Susan Schwausch of Round Rock; two grandsons, Thomas R. Bush Jr. and Donald R. Bush, both of Lafayette, La.; a stepgranddaughter, Shelly Ann Stephenson Kendrick of Childress, Texas; and one sister, Frances K. Reed of Roanoke, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Jesse Kessinger and one sister, Lois K. Hamlett. LONG, Judge M. M. Long, of Abingdon, formerly of St. Paul, Va., died Tuesday, May 2, 1995. He retired from the 30th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, after 27 years, in 1986. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond and received his Doctorate of Law from Washington and Lee University. He was a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association and the Wise County Bar. Judge Long was also a member of Phi Delta Phi, the American Judicature So ciety and Kappa Alpha. He had served in the European Theater in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Jean Long; three sisters, Mrs. David (Charlotte) Brillhart, Mrs. Virginia Burns and Mrs. Helen Muse, all of Abingdon; three stepsons, Dr. B. R. Matheson, Bristol, Dr. M. C. Matheson, Windermere, Fla., J. N. Matheson, Hermitage, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services for Judge M. M. Long will be conducted Thursday, May 4, 1995, at 11 a.m., from the graveside in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va. The eulogy will be delivered by Judge J. Robert Stump. MURPHY, Pearl Whitten, 98, of Collinsville, Va., died Monday, May 1, 1995 in Memorial Hospital, Martinsville-Henry County. She was born August 23, 1896 in Stoneville, N. C. Survivors include a daughter, Inez Whitten Stultz; and a son, John B. ``Jack"" Whitten, both of Collinsville; and a granddaughter, Amy Stultz Joyce of Roanoke. ZEIGLER, Anne Harwell Smiley, 63, of Lexington, died Monday, May 1, 1995, at her residence. She was born on March 28, 1932, in Lexington, a daughter of Virginia Halstead Smiley McCoy, of Lexington and the late William Spencer Smiley. Mrs. Zeigler was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Lexington. Also she was formerly secretary of the late Chief Al Rhodenizer, Lexington City Police Department and later became a dispatcher. She was employed as secretary at the Washington and Lee University in the School of Commerce for the past 25 years. In addition to her mother, survivors include a daughter, Ms. Elizabeth Z. Nuckols, Raphine; a half brother, William Michael Smiley, Buena Vista; a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Nuckols, Raphine; a stepmother, Rosa Smiley Morris, Buena Vista; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 1995, with the Rev. Kenneth K. Patrick and the Rev. Dr. L. Randolph Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
