TROUT, Jane Blankenship, 56, of Narrows, died Sunday, May 7, 1995 in a Pearisburg, Va. hospital. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on December 11, 1938 and was the daughter of the late William Claude and Clara Elizabeth Shrader Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Trout, and a sister, Alice Blankenship Haga. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6000 Auxiliary of Narrows, Va. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth T. Williams, Narrows, Va.; three brothers, Danny Blankenship, Wesley Blankenship, both of Narrows, Va., Dale Blankenship, Catawba, Va.; two sisters, Lillie Rogers, Max Meadows, Va., Barbara Pennington, Glen Lyn, Va.; two grandchildren, Justin Hodge and Austin Williams, both of Narrows, Va. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10, 1995 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, with the Rev. Larry Clark and David Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows, Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

BARNARD, Lillie Witt, 72, of Altavista, died Monday, May 8, 1995. Graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Altavista Memorial Park. Arrangements by Finch & Finch Funeral Home.

BOWERS, Martha Boyd, 72, of Shawsville, died Monday, May 8, 1995. She is survived by her husband, Carl W. Bowers Sr; son, Carl W. Bowers Jr.; daughter, Shirley Mae Bowers; sister, Ida Young all of Shawsville. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home. There will be no night visitation.

BRANSON, Marguerite C., 72, of Bristol, formerly of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 7, 1995. Funeral services 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1995, Akard Funeral Home Chapel, Bristol, TN.

CARR, Edward Lee, 69, of Salem went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 8, 1995. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, was retired from employment at the VA Hospital, and was a 1972 LPN graduate of Burrell Memorial Hospital. A gentle, loving, devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Winona F. Carr; two sons, Joseph and James and daughter-in-law Elaine of Salem; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Skip Hill of Little Rock, Donna and Michael Hamlin, Barbara and Gary Beaman all of Salem; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, David and Bernadine Carr of Seattle; sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Robert Muller of San Jose. Funeral services will be at the graveside, Sherwood Memorial on May 11 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 10, 1995 at Lotz in Salem from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Ft. Lewis Rescue Squad.

CAUDILL, R. Dale, 74, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, May 8, 1995, after an extended illness. He was born June 27, 1920, in Troutdale, the son of the late Dr. Thomas E. and Mary Pasley Caudill. He graduated in 1938 from Jefferson High School and graduated from VPI in 1942. He served with the 11th Air Corp in the Aleutian Islands during WWII, attaining the rank of Captain. He began his career with S.H. Heironimus in 1947 in the accounting department and was named President and Chairman of the Board in 1973. He retired in 1982 with 35 years of service. Mr. Caudill held positions in several business and civic organizations during his career including the President of the Retail Merchants Association, Roanoke Citizens Association, Better Business Bureau, Downtown Roanoke, Inc., and the Roanoke Chapter of the VPI Alumni Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Roanoke YMCA, The Roanoke Symphony, National Retail Merchants Association, Hidden Valley Country Club, the Rotary Club, the Roanoke Booster Club, Virginia Retail Merchants Association, Independent Smaller Stores Group, Greater Roanoke Transit Company, the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce, and the Virginia Tech College of Business Advisory Council. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Virginia Tech Old Guard, and active in the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne D. Caudill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Susan Caudill, Salem, Rick and Pam Caudill, Martinsville; four grandchildren, Benjamin Cameron, Carrie Anne and Jonathan Caudill; sister, Marilyn Pruitt, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Jim Riach officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

COTTERELL, Margaret Leona Whalen, 89, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, May 7, 1995. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 1995, Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel, Rural Retreat.

COX, Donald Ray Jr., (``Duck''), 23, of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 7, 1995. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Ray Cox Sr., his grandparents, Russell and Ida Cox, Wilson and Daisy Janney. Surviving are his mother, Nancy Carolyn Janney, Roanoke; a brother, William Russell Cox, Roanoke; special friends, Terri Ayers, William Newman, Terri and Emily Newman, he had a special love for Richard and Teriee Cox, who thought of him as a son. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1995 with Pastor Harold S. Moyer officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. CRAWFORD, Alpha Persinger, 77, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, May 7, 1995, in a Roanoke hospital. She was born February 26, 1918, in Alleghany County, daughter of the late George A. and Rosie Magann Persinger. She attended the Buena Vista Church of God of Prophecy. She was a Nursing Assistant at Stonewall Jackson Hospital for many years. She was preceded in death by three husbands, William H. Slagle, Curtis L. Whitten and Paul R. Crawford, a daughter, Mary Sue Crouch and four sisters and four brothers. Surviving are one daughter, Greta L. Mason, Buena Vista; a sister, Rosemary P. Keaton, Covington; a special grandson, Davey G. Hubbard; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Greg Martin and the R ev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service.

DOLLARHITE, Noma Zipperman, 94, of Stuart, died Sunday, May 7, 1995. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, Howell Funeral Home Chapel.

DUDLEY, John William, 71, of Mechanicsville, died Monday, May 8, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn F. Dudley; daughter and son-in-law, Linda D. and Arthur G. Hinckle; one granddaughter, Amy Michelle Hinckle; two grandsons, John Steven and Adam Christopher Hinckle; two sisters, Mildred Booth and Jean Carter of Roanoke. He was a P.O.W. from World War II and retired from Otis Elevator Co. after 30 years of service. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Also, where a funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, Va. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Association.

EDWARDS, Robert W., 89, of Irvington, died Friday, May 5, 1995. He was a retired Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company executive. A native of Isle of Wight County, Mr. Edwards was a 1928 graduate of the University of Richmond. Upon graduation he joined the Bell Telephone System. He held a number of executive assignments in Suffolk, Danville, Norfolk, Roanoke and Richmond. In 1939 Mr. Edwards was awarded the Theadore N. Vail Medal of Honor--the highest recognition in the Bell System for outstanding public service. He retired to Irvington in 1967. He was a widower of Sara Pierce Edwards who died in November 1991. Bob was a former Boy Scout Master, a member of the Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club, the Irvington Baptist Church, and a Life Member of the Christ Church Foundation. He is survived by cousins, Nancy B. Dodson and Elizabeth B. Winslow both of Smithfield, Va. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Christ C hurch cemetery, Irvington.

GARDNER, Robert Eason, 57, of Roanoke, died Monday, May 8, 1995 at his home. He was employed by Virginia Foundry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wills Gardner. He is survived by his son, David W. Gardner of Roanoke; two daughters, Melissa Gardner of Troutville, Debra Brown of Roanoke; four sisters, Elizabeth Gilbert of Staunton, Norma Watson of Wilmington, Del., Jean Baber of Mt. Holly, N.C., Betty Fainter of Glasgow; two brothers, Rodney Gardner of Roanoke, Glenn Gardner of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Beverly, Bobby, Roger, Candi, Victoria, Joseph, Michael, Emily and Bobbi Jo. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 10, 1995 at 2 p.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel, with interment in Sherwood Memorial Park. HOLIDAY, Loretta Arthur, 94, of Pulaski, died Monday, May 8, 1995, in Highland Manor Nursing Home. She was a retired school teacher for Montgomery County Schools. She is survived by a Son and Daughter-in-Law, James F. and Louise Holiday, Pulaski; a grandson, Paul Holiday; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Anita and Jerry Atkins, Jean and Jim Lippard, and Sharon and William Collins; also survived by two great-grandchildren, Amanda Faulkner and Evan Collins. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1995, from the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joe Burton and Rev. Patrick Coffey officiating. HUTCHINSON, Dainty Fay Bishop, 84, of Blacksburg, passed away early Monday morning, May 8, 1995. She was the daughter of the late Jacob A. and Flora Oliver Bishop. Dainty was a lifetime resident of the Mount Tabor Community. She lived on Bishop Road, which was named after her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curry P. Hutchinson and two brothers, Jake Bishop and Toby Bishop. Surviving are two sisters, Alma R. Bishop, Salem, and Lois B. Hearn, Dublin; also two sisters-in-law, Nellie Bishop, Blacksburg, and Alene Bishop, Salem; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1995, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ira Smith, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

PARE, Albertine Isabel Tremblay, 78, of 1703 Foothill Drive, Bedford, died suddenly Monday, May 8, 1995, in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born March 1, 1917, in Tilbury, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Israel Tremblay and Ida Lariviere Tremblay. She was the widow of Norman Jacques Pare, a Communicant of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church and was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine Pare Gonia. She is survived by her son, Ronald N. Pare, Bedford; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria A. (Richard L.) Arnold, Smith Mountain Lake; six sisters, Amanda Gilhuly and Elea nor Majchrzak, both of Melvindale, Mich, Alice Pacquette, Livonia, Mich., Theresa Cooke, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Amelia Beneateau and Margaret Moore, both of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; a brother, Arthur Tremblay, Taylor, Mich.; also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Resurrection will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1995, at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with Father James J. Begley officiating. WEBB, William Anderson, (``Willie""), 61, of Natural Bridge, died Monday, May 8,1995 at his home. Mr. Webb was born April 26, 1934 in Rockbridge County, a son of Hassie McGrady Webb of Natural Bridge,Va. and the late Robert William Webb. He was a member of the High Bridge Presbyterian Church and the Glasgow Moose Lodge. He was retired from ITT after 20 years service. Surviving, in addition to his mother, is a son and daughter-in-law, W. Steven and Ginger Webb, Buena Vista; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa W. and Ernest Chambers, Buchanan, Jennifer Webb, Natural Bridge Station; two sisters, Catherine W. Kessinger, Geneva W. Conner, both of Natural Bridge; one brother, Robert A. Webb, Lexington; four grandchildren, W. Bla ke and Milea Webb, Brittany and Jordan Chambers.
