Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern Inc., an architectural, engineering and planning firm based in Roanoke, has promoted PAUL P. ANDERSON, JOHN CHANEY JR., BILLY J. CLENDENIN, JAMES E. JOHNSON, MICHELLE T. MILES and JEFFREY T. YENTZ to the position of firm associates.

Anderson joined HSMM in 1988 as a civil engineer and is responsible for the design and management of transportation projects.

Chaney, a mechanical engineer, joined the firm in 1985 and is responsible for the design and development of mechanical engineering systems for educational facilities, office and public buildings, government facilities and health care projects.

Clendenin joined HSMM in 1985 as a mechanical engineer and is both a registered professional engineer and a registered fire protection engineer.

Johnson, a registered architect and member of the American Institute of Architects, joined the company in 1993 as a senior architect and project manager.

Miles, who joined HSMM in 1979, is business development production manager. She oversees the business development staff and manages production of technical proposals and qualifications statements.

Yentz, a registered architect and member of AIA, joined the firm in 1993 as a project manager in the healthcare group and has 16 years of experience in master planning and design of major medical facilities.

Hayes, Seay Mattern & Mattern has 390 employees in 10 offices in the mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States.

BANKING

JAMES W. McALISTER JR. of Galax, formerly a vice president for NationsBank responsible for regional support in Western Virginia, has been promoted to consumer executive at the bank's regional office in Newport News. The 17-year banking veteran joined NationsBank as an assistant vice president and branch manager in 1985 and was recognized in 1994 for his involvement in developing a business-education partnership in Carroll County.

LISA L. LEWIS has been promoted to assistant vice president and real estate portfolio administrator at First Union National Bank of Virginia in Richmond. She previously was an appraisal review officer in Roanoke. Lewis joined Dominion Bank, predecessor to First Union, in 1981.

NONPROFITS

JEANETTE LAWLER has been appointed naturalist at Virginia's Explore Park. She succeeds Mary Lou Richardson, who has resigned. Before coming to Explore, Lawler was a ranger at Seashore State Park at Virginia Beach.

TRAVEL AND TOURISM

DIANE LEE has been named marketing manager of Travel Network-Roanoke, part of an international chain of 350 travel agencies based in Inglewood Cliffs, N.J. Prior to joining Travel Network, Lee was employed as an account representative and tour coordinator in Washington, D.C.; was sales and marketing manager for an international travel publication in Northern Virginia; and is currently tourism coordinator for Craig County.

TODD SCOTT has joined Travel Professionals Inc. in Roanoke as a travel consultant. He has 10 years of experience in travel agency operations.
