ROANOKE'S ALLISON IN VSGA 4-BALL LEAD

Jake Allison of Roanoke and Mark Teachey of Waynesboro combined for a 7-under-par 64 on Saturday at Hidden Valley Country Club to take a two-stroke lead in the first round of the 30th Virginia State Golf Association Four-Ball Championship. Each player carded four birdies and the team only had one bogey.

Tournament favorites Keith Decker of Fieldale and David Partridge of Richmond, both former state champions and winners of the recent Water's Edge Invitational, shot a 66. Three other teams - Tony DeLuca and Tim Krouse of Northern Virginia, Andrew Reagan and Brad Love and Hidden Valley's Harry Fridge and Terry Carter - also are two shots back. (Complete scores in Scoreboard. C2.)

The Roanoke Country Club tandem of Barry Wolfe and Jeff Lynch is among three teams at 67. Lynch carded a double-eagle 2 on the par-5 16th hole.

Defending champions Charlie Green and Mike Krulich are four strokes back, at 68.

The 36-hole event concludes today, with play beginning at 7:30 a.m.
