LORENA BOBBITT SETTLES LAWSUIT

Lorena Bobbitt has settled a lawsuit filed by an auto-body shop that claimed she made off with a $920 insurance check intended to repair her car.

Bobbitt repaid the money last week, said her attorney, Elden Sodowsky. She had been scheduled for trial today, two years to the day after she cut off her husband's penis with a kitchen knife.

The dispute was a misunderstanding, Sodowsky said.

The suit filed in Prince William County General District Court claimed Bobbitt cashed the check, which was made out jointly to her and the body shop.

The car, a 1991 Mercury Capri, is the same one she drove as she fled, still clutching the severed organ, from the apartment she shared with John Bobbitt.

Lorena Bobbitt was acquitted by reason of insanity of maliciously wounding her husband. John Bobbitt was acquitted in a separate trial of abusing his wife.
