RAYMOND W. CANFIELD of Roanoke recently received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Lenoir College in Hickory, N.C.

BRIAN BOLINSKY, son of Edward and Becky Bolinsky of Roanoke, has been awarded an academic scholarship at Carson-Newman College.

Bolinsky attends Cave Spring High School.

ALLISON COOKE, daughter of James and Marsha Cooke of Salem, has been named to the dean's list of Freed-Hardeman University for the spring semester.

Cooke is a freshman history major.

LACEY ELIZABETH EIBERT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton D. Eibert of Roanoke, received a bachelor of science degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky.

THE ART MUSEUM OF WESTERN VIRGINIA and THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE ROANOKE VALLEY INC. have announced winners of their first Box City Contest held at ArtVenture, the children's center of the art museum. All fifth-grade classes of Roanoke, Roanoke County and Salem schools were invited to submit a model of a city made from cardboard materials.

The winners are: first place, Deborah Harris's fifth grade at Mason's Cove Elementary; second place, Susan Julian's fifth grade at Highland Park Magnet; and third place, Jane Hale's fifth grade of Crystal Spring Elementary schools.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT GREENSBORO has announced the names of Roanoke graduates. They are: Sarah A. Hooven, master of arts in French; Tonya M. Brown, bachelor of arts in psychology; Jodie A. Moore, bachelor of arts in music; and Emily E. Bristol, bachelor of science in clothing and textiles.

DUKE UNIVERSITY in Durham, N.C. has named several Roanoke students to the dean's list for the spring semester. They are: Jay Peter Bonds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bonds; Ellen Renee Brenner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry W. Brenner, dean's list with distinction; Sarah Katherine Laughon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth C. Laughon of Roanoke; Catherine Michelle Obenshain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Obenshain of Roanoke; and David Moran Schleupner, son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles J. Schleupner of Roanoke, dean's list with distinction.

ROANOKE COLLEGE has selected several Roanoke Valley students to participate in its summer research program. They are: Marcelle Crickenberger, who will studybodies and souls in transition; Michael Fadorick, who will compare theories of reasoned action; John Smith, who will research canonization in the 20th century; and Karen St. Clair, who will examine ways of detecting attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
