BEVERLY, Josephine R. Tweedy, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, July 6, 1995. She was born in Pittsylvania County to the late Boss and Nannie Roberson. She was a good and faithful member of the Sweet Union Baptist Church. Her life exemplified that of a true christian. She was preceded in death by husbands, Collie Tweedy and Wilson Beverly, four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include her caring and devoted son, Eric V. Tweedy, Flint, Michigan; a step son, William (Karen) Hundley, Woodbridge; one brother, Jimmy Roberson, Silver Spring, Md.; a speical niece, Jennie Ramsey, Indianapolis, Indiana; one aunt, Mrs. Hester Petty, Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Sullivan, Philadelphia, Pa.; and Lucille Roberson, Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; three special friends, Aretha Jackson, Beulah Dennis and Elaine Ward, all of Roanoke, and many other fiends and her church family. Funeral services will be held Monday 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Chapel. Dr. Edward T. Burton will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

BRAMLETT, Rubin, 71, of Montvale, passed away Friday, July 7, 1995 in a Roanoke hospital. He was born in Bedford County on January 20,1924, a son of the late Willie Bramlett and Melinda Rader Bramlett. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was employed by the Department of Transportation. He is survived by his wife, Effie Creasy Bramlett; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rubin Wayne and Faye Bramlett, Thaxton, and Norris Elroy and Diane Bramlett, Vinton; a sister, Lois B. Higgins, Roanoke; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, July 9, 1995 at 2 p.m. from Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by Dr. William Vest and the Rev. Michael Winters, with interment in the Bramlett Family Cemetery.

BRILL, Dovie Lee Rakes, of Roanoke, died Saturday, July 8, 1995. Mrs. Brill was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, a past President of the Harmon Bible Class, a life member of the Roanoke Council of Garden Clubs, and a life member of the Former W.S.C.S. Guild. She held office in the Gertrude Kastenclike Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians, and served as Parliamentarian for the Thursday Morning Music Club. She was the widow of Floyd M. Brill, and is survived by three half-sisters, Mrs. Verna W. Atkins, Mayodan, N.C., Mrs. Velma B. Thorton, Bassett, Mrs. Virginia Easter, Madison, N.C.; one stepsister, Mrs. Lillie Cruise, Martinsville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Orea G. Rakes, Stuart, Mrs. Dossie P. Rakes, Roanoke; a special great-nephew and his wife, Barry Allen and Deborah Rakes, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and other wonderful nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Burial Park, Monday, July 10, 1995 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Bernard S. Via Jr. and the Rev. Bruce L. Robinson officiating. BROWN, Darryl Andre', 31, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 8, 1995. He was born in Roanoke to Earl Brown Sr. and the late Annie Fleming Brown. He attended and graduated from the Roanoke City Public Schools. Darryl was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Brown Jr. Survivors include his father, Earl Brown Sr.; one brother, Robert Brown, Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Etta J. BUCHANAN, Eva Barton, 94, of Marion, died Saturday, July 8, 1995 in Francis Marion Manor. She is survived by two daughters, Janice Lovelace and husband Robert of Roanoke, and Joan Sturgill Choate of Marion; a sister, Ennis Barton of Sugar Grove; five grandchildren, Rebecca Sturgill Goble, Marion, Janet Diane Hylton, Salem, Robert A. Lovelace, Chesapeake, Deborah Lynn Lovelace-Spencer, Roanoke, and David J. Lovelace, Manassas; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday night, July 10 at 8 p.m. at Barnett's Marion Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Neveille Mozingo officiating. EVANS, George W. Sr., 76, of Lexington, died Friday, July 7, 1995, in an Alexandria hospital. A son of the late Sylvester G. and Pinkie Cooper Evans, he was born in Collierstown, September 25, 1918. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he formerly served on the Trustee Board, The Men's Club, and the Usher Board. Other affiliations include Keystone Lodge #39 an d the Board of Directors of the Rockbridge Area Housing Corporation. George was a graduate of the Christiansburg Institute, Christiansburg, and was employed as an off-set printer before his retirement from the Sigma Nu International Fraternity Headquarters. He was married to the late Mrs. Mary Thompson Evans. He was preceded in death by a son, the late George W. Evans Jr., also. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Lillian (Thaddeus) Lewis, Riverdale, Ga., Mrs. Wyllona (James) Harris, Alexandria, and Mrs. Marylin (Rick) Alexander, Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Patricia Evans, White Plains, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The family will receive friends at the Evans residence, 311 Massie Street at any time. The body may be viewed at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 10, 1995, 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church with Rev. J. JEFFERSON, James Parker, (""Pat""), 83, of Rocky Mount, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 1995. Mr. Jefferson was retired from Burlington Industries with many years of service. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sally C. Jefferson, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Barbara W. Jefferson; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce J. and Tommy Gibson, all of Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, L. T. and Clara Jefferson; one sister, Sarah Tuck, all of Rocky Mount; also surviving are five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. KANODE, Ethelyene Wade, 87, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, July 7, 1995, at the Berkshire Health Care Center in Vinton. She was the widow of Paul S. Kanode and a retired employee of American Viscose. Survivors include one brother, Charles E. Wade and wife, Dolly Wade, Vinton; three sisters, Edith Dillard and husband, Basil Dillard, Vinton, Eula Myers and Vera Parfitt, both of Roanoke; a stepsister, Louise Reed, Floyd. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 10, 1995, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Holly Phillips and the Rev. Douglas Pedigo officiating. LANTZ, Herbert Griffin Jr., 65, of 703 Traver Avenue, South Boston, died Friday, July 8, 1995, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston. He was born September 12, 1929 a son of the late Herbert G. Lantz Sr. and Anna Henn Lantz and was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Daniel Lantz and Walter Eugene Lantz. Mr. Lantz was a retired comptroller with Climate Control and a member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen Kincaid Lantz, South Boston; one son, Richard Allen Lantz, Chesapeake; two daughters, Kathy Lantz Moore, South Boston, Linda Lantz Worsha m, Alton; one brother, Richard Wayne Lantz, Roanoke; three sisters, Helen Lantz Bushnell, Roanoke, Judith Lantz Pruitt, Vinton, Betty Lantz Nevills, Blue Ridge; seven grandchildren. LIPSCOMB, Tyrone Lamont, 15, of Rt. 3 Box 539, Bedford, died Thursday, July 6, 1995 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his parents Thomas and Nancy Lipscomb; three brothers, Cidney Craighead, Edgar Eugene Fox, and Thomas L. Lipscomb Jr. all of Bedford; one sister, Marionette L. Lipscomb; a ""big sister,"" Continey Brown both of Bedford; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma Mae Fox of Bedford; and a host of other relatives and friends. LORITTS, Crawford Wheeler Sr., 81, of Roanoke, the son of the late Milton and Anner Loritts, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, July 4, 1995. Crawford was born February 13, 1914 and raised in Conover, N.C. where he attended public schools and later graduated from Swift Memorial College. He played baseball in the former Negro League., He was employed in the coal mines in Dante, Va. and Wheelwright, Ky. Shortly after his marriage to Sylvia Gray of Lincolnton, N.C. (December 26, 1941) they moved to Newark, N.J., where their three children were born. Crawford was employed with A & P Food Company for more than 30 years and; a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church, Newark, N.J. and later Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Plainfield, N.J. After retirement in 1975, Crawford and Sylvia moved to Roanoke, Va. where he joined Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and became a Trustee until illness prohibited him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia; two daughters, Elaina Loritts-Duckett (Harold), Roanoke, Lavonia Loritts Anderson, Myrtle Beach, S.C; one son, Crawford W. Loritts Jr. (Karen), Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alberta Burney, Vera Loritts, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Inerbelle Loritts, New York, N.Y.; one brother, Howard Loritts, Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Margaret Foster, Charlotte, N.C.; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 10, 1995, at Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. Bernard Crawford. The Rev. Homer Jackson will preach the eulogy. MacINNIS, Audrey C., 68, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, July 7, 1995, at her home. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Christiansburg. Born in Lake Port, Mich. she was the daughter of the late Sarah and Charles Harry Church. Surviviors include her husband, Russell M. MacInnis of Christiansburg; two sons, Russell MacInnis Jr. of Radford, Robert MacInnis of Burlington, N.J.; one daughter, Diane Elizabeth Cote of Hampton, Conn.; three brothers, Robert Church of Shawsville, Kenneth Church of Pulaski, Charles Harry of Palm Harbor, Fla.; five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 11, 1995, at 10 a.m. at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Christiansburg with the Rev. Robert S. Goldsmith officiating. McDOWELL, Paul Robert, (``Mac""), 65, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, July 7, 1995, at his home. He was a retired Tech. Sergeant having served 20 years in the U.S. Air F orce, and was a School Bus Driver for the Montgomery County Schools. He was a member of the Montgomery County Moose Lodge #1470. Survivors include his wife, Carol Holliday McDowell; two daughters, Mrs. Timmy (Debbie) Hurst of Newbern, Miss, Faun McDowell of Christiansburg; one son, Joe McDowell Franklin of New Hampshire; two brothers; Jim McDowell of Macon, Ga., John McDowell of Tulsa, Okla.; four sisters, Helen Rogers of Ft. Gibson, Okla., Jean Melton of Ashland City, Tenn., Jessie Grant of Topeka, Kan., Bessie Grumbine of Cabot, Ark.; six grandchildren. NOWLIN, Willie McKinney, a native of Salem, (Gum Springs), Va., departed this life on Thursday, July 6, 1995. Born January 2, 1915, son of the late Luke and Sylvia Nowlin. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Nowlin Winters. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Gum Springs Baptist Church, where he was a dedicated and faithful worker. Willie dutifully served his employers. Mr. and Mrs. John Logan, John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, and the Mechanical Development Company, where he remained until his retirement. Willie was respected, admired, loved, and always willing to lend a hand when needed. Survivors include a nephew, Ernest Winters; cousins, George Braxton and Lucille, Braxton, all of Salem; and devoted, concerned, and caring friends, Leonard and Gloria Dows, Pauline Burks, Charles and Mildred Jackson, Rick and Cheryl Woods, Viola Cash and many others. REEDY, June Stevens, 80, of Fincastle, passed away Saturday, July 8, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh D. Reedy, and is survived by two sons, Hugh Stevens Reedy, Mt. RUBLE, Richard Wayne, 74, of Christiansburg, died Friday, July 7, 1995, at his home. He was a retired employee of Appalachian Power Company and a member of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Miller Ruble and Parahlee Jernell Ruble; and a sister, Mary R. Sanderson. Surviving are his wife, Betty S. Ruble; a son, Richard Patrick Ruble, Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Ann W. Harrison, Blacksburg; a stepson, Doug Jones Jr., Christiansburg; two brothers, Samuel Ralph Ruble, Carl Alvin Ruble, both of Roanoke; two sisters, Reba Jaquette, Rising Sun, Md., Geneva Wood, Roanoke; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. VERNON, Essie Mae Anderson, 87, of Marion, died Friday, July 7, 1995 in the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Emory L. and Cora Anderson, and widow of William T. Vernon Sr. She is survived by five daughters, Carolyn Williams, Joyce Bishop, and Martha Voigt of Moncks Corner, S.C., Dollie Woodward, and Maxine Kidd of Marion; two sons, William T. Vernon Jr. of Moncks Corner, S.C., and Lynn Vernon of Flowery Branch, Ga.; one brother, Wade R. Anderson of Sugar Grove; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. WALKER, James William, 65, of Hampton, died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital. Mr. Walker was a native of Radford and a Hampton resident for 30 years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the 11th Airborne Division as a Parachutist. Mr. Walker retired in 1988 as a carpenter. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Mary Heinline Walker of Hampton; two sisters, Dorothy W. Scaggs and Virginia W. Akers, both of Radford; two brothers, Ernest F.
