Pulaski rallied from a 7-0 deficit to defeat the Wythe County East squad 10-8 for the crown. Wythe jumped all over Pulaski starter Chris Lewis, scoring seven runs in the game's first two innings.
In the third stanza things began to turn around for Pulaski when Bradley Steele laced a two-run single, and Tyler Ashworth stole home to close the gap to 7-3. The onslaught continued in the fourth when Pulaski added three more runs. In the fourth inning the offense was driven by Ryan Sypniewski's two-run double and an RBI single by Mike Dalton.
The fifth inning provided Pulaski with the difference in the game as the team posted four more runs to take a 9-7 lead that was never relinquished. Lewis, Dalton and Chris Hardin drove in the Pulaski runs.
Travis Quesenberry recorded the win. Dalton garnered the save while giving up one run and striking out three.
Pulaski reached the finals by defeating Carroll County National 8-7 in the semifinals. Hardin scored the game winning run after a Carroll County throwing error in the bottom of sixth. Dalton worked the final two innings for the win.
Pulaski's Joselyn Travis qualified for the Parks and Recreations National Track Meet in the long jump to be held Aug. 12, in Hershey, Pa.
Travis recorded a jump of 8'1" at the state finals to qualify for the national meet. She will compete in the 11-12 age group. The 12-year-old is no stranger to the national stage as she captured the long jump title in the 9-10 age group in 1993. Travis is the first Pulaski resident to qualify for the national meet twice. Travis is Pulaski's 17th state champion.
More than 1 million kids compete in local meets in all 50 states, and only 400 advance to the national meet.
Juanita Ford of Pulaski finished second in the 200-meters and third in the 100-meters.
The Pulaski Dixie PreMajors (ages 15-16) ended their season with a 17-6 record after losing both games at the Southwestern District Tournament in Christinasburg. Pulaski was eliminated after a 5-4 loss to Radford.
Timmy Anderson, who had an earned run average of 1.20, and Nick Yates, who led the team in runs scored, hits and stolen bases, were named the team's most valuable players.
Hudson's rewrote the Pulaski men's softball league record book but it was Golden Corral that took home the regular season league championship.
Golden Corral finished the regular season with a record 25-1 to edge Hudson's (24-2) by a game. Golden Corral defeated Hudson's twice by a total of three runs late in the season. In the most dramatic game of the season, Bobby Easter hit a one-out home run in the bottom of the seventh to provide Golden Corral with a 13-12 victory over their rival.
Hudson's set league records for home runs (199), runs scored (640) and highest on base percentage (.640).
Pulaski Hospital finished third with a record of 19-7 and Budweiser finished fourth at 18-8.
In Christiansburg men's open league softball, Southern Classic Auto Wash remained atop the league standing with a record of 11-1.
Fast Bounty Hunters dealt the Southern Classic squad its first loss of the season with a score of12-6 last week. The Bounty Hunters are in fourth place with a record of 7-5. Harmon's Chevron is second with a record of 9-3.
In Church League action Brethren/Mennonite remained undefeated at 9-0 to lead the league. St. Paul II is in second place with a record of 7-3, a half a game ahead of Abundant Life at 6-3.
