ALDERMAN, Mary Jane, 94, of Christiansburg, died Monday, July 31, 1995, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 3, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Claude Dove and the Rev. Rodney Houston with burial in Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements by Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

BAILEY, David Keener, 83, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 1, 1995, at Lewis Gale Hospital. Mr. Bailey was born October 26, 1911, in Ashland, Ohio. He had lived in Lakewood and Berea, Ohio before coming to Roanoke in 1982. He was a C.P.A. and Hospital Controller before retiring in 1978. He was a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church in Roanoke and a member of the Scottish Rite. Surviving are his wife, Jean Taylor Bailey; two sons; four grandchildren. Private services will be held for the family. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.

BOWMAN, Nacie Canaday, 91, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 2, 1995, in Va. Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry O. Bowman and is survived by her daughter, Frances B. Eaton, Va. Beach; three grandchildren, Lee Ann Eaton, Alpharetta, Ga., Hugh Mitchell Eaton III, Nashville, Tenn., Steven B. Eaton and wife Barbara, Dumphries; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Lotz Roanoke Chapel by the Rev. Alton Washington with burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

CARTER, Willie Moses, 70, of 554 Mulligan Drive, Virginia Beach, died Tuesday, August 1, 1995. She was born in Roanoke County. She was retired as a sales clerk and assistant buyer with Smith and Welton. She is survived by her husband, Charlie G. Carter Jr.; one daughter, Robbin Hicks of Suffolk; two sons, Ronald D. Carter of Pittsburgh, Pa., Richard G. Carter of Charlottesville; five sisters, Hazel Mynes of Brooklyn, Md., Thelma Foster of Westminster, Md., Truby Moore, Glenna Brown and Etta Flinchum, all of Salem; one brother, Cecil Moses of Troutville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 4, 1995, at 3 p.m. in Sherwood Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. HALLER, Virginia Doriot, of Salem, died on June 13, 1995, at the United Methodist Home in Roanoke. Miss Haller was born in Pocahontas, Va. in 1898. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John Paulette Haller and Mrs. Margaret Whitman Haller of Wytheville. She was educated in Virginia and at Columbia University, where she received her Masters Degree in Classics. After a long and illustrious teaching career, Miss Haller retired to her home in Salem, where she remained active in civic affairs, especially the Virginia Historical Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A service of Christian Burial will be held at the graveside in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem on Saturday, August 19, 1995, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Copenhaver of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating, assisted by Mrs. Mary Orville.

HAYDEN, Winifred H., 67, of Marion, died Monday, July 31, 1995. Funeral 4 p.m. Thursday, South Fork Baptist Church. Arrangements by Seaver-Brown Funeral Service.

HINTON, Clarke Stokes Jr., 40, of Hyattsville, Md., and formerly of Salem, died Friday, July 28, 1995. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarke S. Hinton Sr.; grandparents, Ada Lawson Texer, James Lawson, James T. Hinton, Bessie Wingfield Hess. He is survived by his mother, Edna Hinton, Romney, W.Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Karen L. and Jim Bennett, Kings Mountain, N.C.; brother, Jimmy Hinton, Bedford Co.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. HODGES, Mary P., 87, of Catawba, died Wednesday, August 2, 1995, in a Salem hospital. She is survived by one son, Bobby L. Hodges, Catawba; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and William Francisco, Catawba, Connie Sue and Oral Clarkson, Wakefield, W.Va.; one brother, David Sirry, Salem; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. LINCOLN, Clara Brizendine, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 1995. She was retired from the Roanoke Garment Company. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lemmer Brizendine; five brothers, Arnold Brizendine, Mack Brizendine, Frank Brizendine, Odell Brizendine and Ira Brizendine; son-in-law, Fred Manning. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Helen Paxton; a daughter, Peggy Manning, all of Roanoke; four granddaughters, Debbie Manning, Lynchburg, Janet Kumpf and husband Michael, New Cumberland, Penn., Kathy Bandy and husband David, Missy Paxton, all of Roanoke; a great-grandson, James Day, New Cumberland, Penn.; two brothers, Carl Brizendine, Roanoke, Bernell Brizendine, Salem. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 1:30 p.m. Friday with Minister Derry Gray officiating. Interment wil l follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. LOCHER, Thomas Mario, 37, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 31, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Deborah L. Locher; son, Michael Thomas Locher, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Matt Owens, Roanoke; granddaughter, Robyn Ainsley Owens, Roanoke; mother, Lucille J. MATHERLY, Charlie Quinton, 84, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, August 1, 1995, in Heritage Hall Nursing Home. McPHERSON, Fredrika Williford, 84, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, July 31, 1995 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. Born at West Point, New York on July 2, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Gen. Forrest E. Williford and Fredrika Martin Williford. She was married on May 7, 1932, at Corregidor on the Philippine Island, to Col. (USA Ret.) William Lindsey McPherson. Her husband preceded her death. Mrs. McPherson was a driver for O.S.S. in Washington, D.C. during World War II. She worked as a volunteer for Montgomery Regional Hospital, was a member of the Colonial Dames, and was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church. Surviving are a son, Forrest W. McPherson; and many wonderful family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 1995, at Ch rist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Roderick Sinclair, the Rev. R. Baldwin Lloyd, and Mrs. Anne Riggs officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. SHAVER, Alonzo Montgomery, 92, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, August 1, 1995. Born in Montgomery County on May 13, 1903, he was a son of the late Charles Thomas and Margaret Ann Cook Shaver. He was a retired mechanic with R.A.A.P. Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Shaver; a daughter, Kathleen Price, Blacksburg; two stepchildren, Roderick Elliott, Blacksburg, Robert Elliott Belspring; two granddaughters, Tamela Price, Tina Price, both of Blacksburg; four grandsons, Ernest Lee Price, David Shaver, both of Blacksburg, Jeff Shaver, Salem, Steven Ray Shaver, Chesterfield; one great-grandson, Anthony Watson; one great-great-granddaughter, Jordan Watson, both of Christiansburg; two brothers, Charles Rudolph Shaver, Ellett Newton Sh aver, both of Blacksburg. SLUSHER, Ruth Ola Wells Linkous, of Riner, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 1995 at Radford Community Hospital. She was a member of the Sidney United Methodist Church at Riner. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifton Linkous, and also by her second husband, Velmar L. Slusher. Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne L. Greer, Riner, Nancy L. Endicott, Christiansburg, and Betty L. Eanes, Richmond; two sons, Franklin A. Linkous, Chester, and V. Lee Slusher Jr., Concord, N.C.; five stepdaughters, Lucille Burns, Florence, S.C., Doris Kitts, Ernestine Spencer and Frances Keith, all of Christiansburg, and Pauline Caldwell, Radford; three stepsons, Kenneth Slusher and Carl S lusher, both of Riner, and James Slusher, Floyd; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 4, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders and Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Walt Simmerman officiating. VEST, James Aurich Jr., (``Jay""), 22, of Bedford, died Tuesday, August 1, 1995, in Charlottesville. He was born on July 28, 1973, son of James A. and Martha R. Vest of Bedford. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Woodberry Forest School, he was a fourth year student at the University of Virginia, where he was a member and former officer in DKE Fraternity. In addition to his parents he is survived by his sister, Catherine Woodson Vest of Lynchburg; his maternal grandparents, Michael D. and Mary S. Twark of Forest. Memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 4, at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rt. Rev. Frank H. Vest Jr., the Rev. James A Creasy and Father James J. Begley officiating.
