TEAMSTERS CALL NATIONSBANK RACIST

NationsBank denied home loans to black residents at a rate at least three times higher than the rate for whites in Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas and Washington, D.C., a Teamsters union study said Thursday.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference joined the Teamsters in accusing the bank of racism.

``That study ... indicates a continuing, ever-expanding pattern of discrimination in denying loans to African-Americans,'' said the Rev. Joseph Lowery, SCLC president.

NationsBank said the study is misleading because it does not reflect the credit histories of potential borrowers.

The union denied using the study to punish Borg-Warner, owner of Pony Express Courier. The bank uses the courier, which voted two years ago for Teamsters representation but lacks a contract.
