ALLEN, Ruby Elizabeth, 83, of Marion, died Sunday, August 13, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a long time resident of Marion and a life time member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. She was a member of the DAR, UDC, and a founding member of the Marion Pilot Club. She was a long time affiliate of the Smyth County Red Cross Blood Program. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferd and Laura Copenhaver Allen, and a sister, Ruth Carolyn Allen. She is survived by several cousins. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 1995, at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements by Seaver-Brown Funeral Service.

CARTER, John Thomas Jr., 48, of Goodview, passed away Monday, August 14, 1995. He was a true inspiration to his family and friends and was a very friendly man. He is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian R. Carter. He is survived by his father and stepmother, John T. Sr. and Jean L. Carter; sister and brother-in-law, Venie and Roger Barton; stepsister, Thelma Shrewsbury; nephews, Butch Wayne Bowles, and Kelly Wayne Bowles. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 1995 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Randy J. Garner officiating. CONNER, Lois W., 66, of Vesta, died Monday, August 14, 1995. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 1995, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Stuart.

COOK, Rev. William Clarence, 69, of 641 Fifth St., N.E., Pulaski, died Monday, August 14, 1995, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born in Draper on June 9, 1926, and was the son of the late John William Cook and Virginia Windle Cook. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army where he was wounded in action in the Philippines. Rev. Cook was a member and Chaplain of VFW Post #1184, Pulaski, and a member of the American Legion Post #7, Pulaski. He was a member of the Draper's Valley Baptist Church and was the Pastor of Brookmont Presbyterian Church, Bookmont Road, Pulaski. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth R. Cook, Pulaski; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and James Kidd, Dublin; one sister; Mrs. Clyde (Nancy) Thompson, Pulaski; one brother, George Cook, Chester; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Kidd, Dublin. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Draper's Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilfred Overton and the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Pulaski County, with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. CRAWFORD, C. Embree, 79, of Amherst County, died Tuesday, August 15, 1995. Born July 23, 1916 in Amherst County; sone of the late John Houston and Hallie Coffey Crawford. He was a farmer. Surviving are two sisters, Edna C. Berry of Buena Vista and Virginia C. Coffey of Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 18, 1995 at 2 p.m. at the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Schooler and Dr. Chip Pendleton officiating. DIVERS, Harry E., 99, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 14, 1995 in a Salem nursing home. Mr. Divers was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby M. Divers, and a son, Everett E. Divers. He was retired from American Viscose Corp. and was a veteran of WW I. Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Gloria Divers, Roanoke, Reginald Divers, Virginia Beach and Jean Divers Overstreet, Roanoke; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's North Chapel, 3 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 1995, with the Rev. Harold C., Lewis and the Rev. J. Landon Maddex officiating. HALEY, Francis Lovell, (``Dink""), 59, of Martinsville, died Monday, August 14, 1995, at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Haley was a stock broker with Scott-Stringfellow and formerly a golf professional with Galax Country Club. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the Martinsville Exchange Club, Martinsville Elks Club. He was a member of Lynwood, Chatmoss, & Forest Park Country Club. He was a graduate of Bassett High School, Ferrum College and attended East Tennessee State University. He was a member of Stanleytow n United Methodist Church. He was co-founder of Alta-Drew Corp. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Ellsworth Haley Sr. He is survived by his wife, Linda Edwards Haley, of the home; mother, Mrs. Alta Lovell Haley Andes, Martinsville; sisters, Betty H. Mullen, Wheeling, W.Va., Brenda H. Schulman, San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Herman Ellsworth Haley Jr., Bassett, C. Wayne Haley, Huddleston, Patrick Henry Haley, Lynchburg, Thomas D. Haley and Michael P. Haley, both of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 1995, at Stanleytown United Methodist Church. The Rev. LAUGHINGHOUSE, Ashley Gibbs, 30, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Monday, August 14, 1995, at his home. He was born July 16, 1965 in Eden, N.C., and was a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School. MILLS, Alexander Wray, 54, of Norfolk, died Monday, August 14, 1995, at his home. He was born in Roanoke. He was Office Manager for Waco Scaffolding Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn J. Mills. Survivors are two daughters, Kimberly S. Lewis, Norfolk, Theresa Vaughn, Mt. Holly, N.J.; mother, Ruth Wray Mills, Boones Mill; three sisters, Kathy Hartman, Betty Jane Guthrie, and Anita Mills, all of Boones Mill; three brothers, Herman Mills, Harold Mills, and Jerry Mills, all of Boones Mill; two grandchildren, Megan Vaughn and Brandon Vaughn, both of Mt. PAYNE, Carlos Elroy, 53, of Rt. 2, Max Meadows, died Monday, August 14, 1995 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was a Service Technician for Poplar Camp Electric Company for more than twenty-five years and was preceded in death by his father, Joseph William Payne. He is survived by his mother, Icy Burnett Payne, Rt. 2, Max Meadows; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred Etheleen and John Amos, Penhook; one niece, Karen Elizabeth Amos; a special uncle, Clarence (``Brush'') Burnett, Max Meadows. RUTTER, Shirley Orene, 59, of Collinsville, and formerly of Floyd, passed away Monday, August 14, 1995 in a Martinsville Hospital after a hard battle with cancer. She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Mandel E. and Stacy Harris, Ridgeway, Denny F. Harris, Eden, N.C., Doyle Harris, Collinsville; mother, Vera L. Rutter, Collinsville; one brother and sister-in-law, James L. and Dorothy Rutter, Floyd; one sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Arnold Naff, Pilot; three grandchildren, Kelly Harris, Kristy Harris, Austin Harris; two stepgrandchildren, Margie Ann Minter, Joshua Minter; several nieces and nephews. SAVILLE, Patrick Gray, 20, of Eagle Rock, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 1995 after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia. He had lived all of his life in Eagle Rock and was the second year full time student at Dabney Lancaster Community College in Clifton Forge. He was a part time employee of Gala Industries in Eagle Rock, he was the Vice President of the Eagle Rock Fire Department and EMT and Sergeant of Eagle Rock Rescue Squad. He is survived by his parents, Donald and Vickie Saville; brother, Donald Saville II.; sister-in-law, Lynette Saville; nephew, Jordan; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, August 16, 1995 at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Galatia Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 17, 1995 at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in church cemetery. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert McRae, Pastor of Galatia Church and the Rev. Wessley Patterson of Trinity Baptist Church in Bedford. UDELL, Elizabeth Spraker, 86, of Wytheville, and widow of Burt Udell, died Monday, August 14, 1995 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church and also a charter member of the Wytheville Rebekah Lodge #57. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Don M. and Ethel Shipley of Rocky Mount; one sister, Sara Watson of Richmond; one brother, Robert Spraker of Wytheville; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Spraker, Dorothy Spraker, both of Wytheville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 17, 1995 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Barry Losey officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery, Wytheville.
