Quigley Memorial Run

CHRISTIANSBURG - The 12th Annual Cheryl M. Quigley Memorial Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, at 8:30 a.m., in Christiansburg. The event is sponsored by First National Bank and coordinated by Christiansburg Jaycees.

The first three winners in both male and female divisions will receive awards. Awards will also be presented to winners in each age group and male and female winners of the "Fun Run." T-shirts will be given to the first 150 entries. The entry fee is $10 through Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Candidates to speak

PULASKI - Candidates for the Pulaski County School Board will share their platform and answer previously submitted questions on Oct. 16, 7 p.m., at Pulaski Middle School. The public is invited.

Postgraduate program

BLACKSBURG - Almost 50 institutions will provide information about graduate and professional education programs Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Graduate and Professional Day will be set up in the Commonwealth Ballroom in Squires Student Center.

Advisers sought

CHRISTIANSBURG - Montgomery County Public Schools is searching for representatives to serve on the Advisory Committee for Alternative Education. The committee assists in the formulation, development and evaluation of alternative education programs for students at risk of dropping out of school.

Database expanded

RADFORD - It will be easier to find and retrieve information from journals, magazines and newspapers in Radford. The Radford Library recently added several new software programs to supplement its book collection.

Following is a list of the new computer programs: Granger's Poetry Index, Mortgage Modeler Amortization Tables, Distant Suns, World Factbook, The New Grolier's Multimedia Encyclopedia, PhoneDisc Business and PhoneDisc Residential.

Patrons can print information from the programs for 10 cents per page.

Advocates for gifted

CHRISTIANSBURG - There will be a Parents Advocating Gifted Education meeting Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Christiansburg Middle School cafeteria.

The New River Valley Chapter for Exceptional Children will meet Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Squires Student Center, Virginia Tech, at 7 p.m.

Hal McGrady will make a presentation at the meeting. The program will address questions about the realignment of federal and state funds for special education programs. The program is open to the public.
