LYNCHBURG'S DUDLEY CONSISTENT WITH LURE

David Dudley of Lynchburg has remained consistent in the BassMaster Virginia Top 100 fishing tournament on the James River.

Because of that, the 20-year-old has caught a five-fish limit of good-sized bass for three straight days and is in fifth place in the $273,200 event after Friday's third leg of the four-day affair. Dudley, with a total of 30 pounds, 11 ounces, is only 4 pounds, 15 ounces out of first place, held by Darrell Wilbanks of Greenville, S.C.

Wilbanks moved into first place Friday with a catch of 11 pounds, 13 ounces. His total of 34 pounds, 8 ounces was enough to overtake Mike Auten, who led the first two days, and Guido Hibdon, who was in second place Thursday.

Auten, who had a monster stringer weighing 23 pounds, 12 ounces on Wednesday, did not weigh a fish on Friday and is in ninth place with 27 pounds, 3 ounces. Hibdon caught four fish, but they weighed only 6 pounds, 4 ounces, dropping him to fourth place with 31 pounds, 5 ounces.

Shaw Grigsby Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., is in second with 32 pounds, 13 ounces. Darrell Robertson of Jay, Okla., is in third. He's weighed-in only 10 bass, but they were big ones, as his three-day total is 32 pounds, 10 ounces. Only 3 pounds, 13 ounces separate the top three anglers.

Woo Daves of Spring Grove dropped from 25th to 39th place after weighing just one fish Friday. He has 18 pounds, 4 ounces.

Rick Morris of Virginia Beach is in 31st place with a 15-fish limit weighing 20 pounds, 4 ounces.

The final weigh-in will be at 3 p.m. today at Osborn Landing in Henrico County.

In other BASS news, 10 locations in the Southeast have made the short list for the Outdoor America theme park being planned by the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society.

From more than 70 locations that submitted proposals, 10 have been invited to make presentations to the BASS selection committee Nov.1-3 in Atlanta.

The finalists are: Birmingham and Montgomery in Alabama; Daytona Beach, Jacksonville and Brevard County in Florida; Savannah, Ga.; Charlotte, N.C.; Charleston, S.C.; and Nashville and Sevier County in Tennessee.
