VINTON COUNCIL PROPOSES CAPITOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN

A new ambulance, new police cars and water and sewer line improvements are among the projects listed in a proposed capital improvement plan that Vinton Town Council took under advisement Tuesday night.

The five-year plan is updated each year and now targets projects through June 2000.

Council is expected to act on the 1995-96 portion of the plan at its Nov. 21 meeting. Over the years, Town Council has added 62 projects that will be funded from its general funds and enterprise budgets.

Town Manager Clay Goodman, however, only submitted 34 projects costing $540,000 to council Tuesday because of the lack of funding. Money for 29 projects will come out of the general fund, and money for the other five will come from the enterprise fund.

The general fund has 49 projects costing more than $1 million, and the enterprise fund includes 13 items that would cost $1.7 million.

The most expensive project for 1995-96 is water and sewer line improvements at $125,000. Replacing an ambulance will cost the town $80,000.

The projects include everything from replacing copy machines to dump trucks to improvements to the Vinton War Memorial's parking lot.
