2 MORE MARION TEENS KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT

Three students from Marion High School have died in single-car accidents in the last 24 days. The two most recent deaths came Tuesday afternoon when a carload of teens crashed into a tree.

Angel Edwards, 17, died at Smyth County Community Hospital about an hour after the car she was driving hit a tree. State Trooper D.L. Price said Edwards was driving into a curve too fast about 3:10 p.m. on Virginia 662, 2.5 miles south of U.S. 11, when the car ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Eric Barr, 16, was flown from the Smyth hospital to Bristol Memorial Medical Center Hospital, where he died about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Both Barr and Edwards were from Marion.

Price said there were five teens in the car. Barr was seated in the center of the back seat. It is unclear who was wearing seat belts.

Michael Charles Whitecotton, 16, was listed in poor but stable condition at the Smyth hospital Wednesday night after undergoing surgery Tuesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Adam Chase Ferley, 16, and Lewis Carl Shumate, 16, were discharged from the hospital Wednesday.

A third teen died Oct. 17 in a single-car accident in Atkins.
