JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who received degrees during summer graduation ceremonies. They are: Phillip A. Cantrell of Salem, master of arts degree; Antonio E. Cupit , bachelor of science; Collen H. Foster, bachelor of science; Jessica G. Freeman, bachelor of science; Laura C. Nolan, bachelor of science; and David S. Schear, bachelor of music, all of Roanoke.

RADFORD UNIVERSITY has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who received degrees during summer graduation ceremonies. ELIZABETH BARTAM WAFLE of Roanoke recently graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of arts degree.

SARAH LOUANNE FLORY, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Randall K. Flory of Roanoke, will serve as a Gold Key tour guide for Randolph-Macon Woman's College during the 1995-96 academic year. Flory, a sophomore, is one of 41 students selected to give campus tours and correspond with and host prospective students. She graduated from Northside High School.

REBEKAH D. FENZEL, daughter of Lawrence and Ella Fenzel of Roanoke, has received a $1,000 Academic Achievement Scholarship from Eastern Mennonite University.

JOE KIRBY, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kirby III of Salem, has been named a Bittle Scholar at Roanoke College. Bittle scholars - named for David F. Brittle, the college's founder and president - must be ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school class and must have a combined score of 1,200 or above on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Kirby, a Salem High School graduate, will receive full tuition for the four years he's at the college as long as he maintains a 3.25 grade point average.

ROBERT PARKER WATERS of Salem recently graduated from Elon College in North Carolina.

ABIGAIL PACK of Roanoke, a graduate student at the University of Iowa, is playing the horn in the University Symphony.

Pack had to audition for the symphony, which is considered the most prestigious ensemble at the university's School of Music.

ABBY DICKSON, daughter of Richard and Dianne Dickson, was among 22 students at Guilford College to be named Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Scholars

Bonner Scholars receive financial support during their four years at Guilford in exchange for participating in community service programs.

ROBERTA M. PRICE and MARGARET W. THIBODEAUX, both of Roanoke, have completed degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Price and Thibodeaux both received master degrees in library and information studies.

VIRGINIA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE has announced the names of its 1995 summer semester graduates from the Roanoke-area.

Those from Roanoke are: Lori L. Durso, Joel S. Elkins, Christina C. England, Gregory S. Hawthorne, Eileen P. Houston, Carissa W. Mendez, Linda T. Saunders and Adam M. Williams.

From Salem: Robin M. Allen, Carolyn F. Hackney and Tanya G. Hatchett.

To be named to the president's list, a student must earn a 3.5 or better grade point average.

The following Roanoke-area students were named to dean's list: John C. Ross and Rebecca F. Wood, both from Roanoke; Jamey B. Brads, Blue Ridge; Melinda M. Kingery, Buchanan.

BETH A. POWERS, daughter of Sherry W. Edwards of Roanoke, was named a Highlander Scholar by the Radford University Honors Program. To become a Highlander Scholar a student must meet grade point average and class requirements and submit a faculty recommendation.

ANGELA JEFFERSON, daughter of Roger and Linda Jefferson of Roanoke, is a member of Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society at Lynchburg College.

Jefferson is a 1993 graduate of Cave Spring High School and a junior psychology major at Lynchburg College.

ROANOKE COLLEGE has awarded Oberley Scholarships to Scott Carlesco, David McCutcheon, and Angela Short, all of Roanoke; and Marcie Flinchum of Salem.

Requirements for the Oberley Scholarship include completing an associate degree at a community college and being a full-time student at Roanoke College. The scholarship is funded by Roanoke College and provides $10,000 annually for up to two years.
