BRYAN E. GRUBB, an electrician with Varney Electric Co., has been named the Outstanding Electricity Graduate for 1994-95 at the Roanoke Regional Apprenticeship Center at Gibboney Technical Center.

Grubb, a 1988 graduate of Northside High School, is the first recipient of the award that is sponsored by Klein Tools Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was one of five graduates of the electricity class. He is in the Marine Corps Reserve and has worked for Varney since 1988.

The center has 250 students enrolled in apprenticeship programs leading to licenses and/or certification in such fields as electricity, cosmetology, building maintenance, plumbing/pipe fitting and sheet metal work.

HONEYTREE EARLY LEARNING CENTERS has announced several promotions: Annette Swestyn has been promoted to director of the Roanoke Boulevard center. She has been with Honeytree since 1992, as a lead teacher and an assistant director at the Patrick Road and McVitty Road centers.

Lead teacher Deanna Clark of the Patrick Road center has been promoted to assistant director of the McVitty Road center.

Tina Kitchens and Karen Oliver have been named multisite directors. Kitchens, who is director of the Patrick Road center, also will supervise the Roanoke Boulevard and McVitty Road centers. Oliver, who is a program director, will supervise the centers on Electric Road and West Main Street in Salem.

PATSY J. BEAN has been named Brandon Oaks Retirement Community's Employee of the Year. Bean, who has worked at Brandon Oaks since 1993, is main dining room manager, overseeing dining room operations and special event functions.

LAANS HOKANSON, formerly of New Castle, has been named co-manager of the 84 Lumber store in Falling Creek, where he will be responsible for operations, sales and inventory control. Hokanson came to work for the 84 chain in 1994 in its Pulaski store.
