NEW CHURCH FORMED IN GILES

The New River Valley's newest church may be Angel's Rest Baptist Fellowship in Pearisburg. Sixty-three charter members formed the church Nov. 12 and named it in honor of nearby Angel's Rest Mountain.

Church members have adopted bylaws and a constitution, and have found an interim pastor, Otis McClung.

The church meets in the Pearisburg Community Center. Sunday school classes start at 9:45 a.m.; worship is at 11. Visitors are welcome. Leo and Joy Smith, 921-1178.

SERVICES

Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street in Christiansburg conducts a new informal evening worship at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning this Wednesday. The 45-minute service is for people who work on weekends, community newcomers, and people looking for a midweek worship opportunity. 382-2223.

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass today at 5 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, on Gladewood Road in Blacksburg, will have a Thanksgiving potluck brunch at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. At 8:45 a.m., Judy Snoke will review the book ``A River Runs Through It'' during a round-table discussion. 552-2717.

Blacksburg's Metaphysical Chapel on Church and Lee streets will have Sharing Sunday at 7 p.m. Sunday. 953-4848.

Fred Austin, Wytheville District superintendent of the United Methodist Church, will speak at Rockford United Methodist Church in Radford at 9:45 a.m. Sunday and at 11 at Morgans Chapel Church in New River. A reception for Austin, former pastor of the churches, will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Rockford church.

Walton Pentecostal Holiness Church will sponsor evangelists Jimmy and Carolyn Hillard on Tuesday through Sunday. Weeknight services will be at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday services will be at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

JOYFUL NOISES

The Farley Brothers, Friends in Jesus and the Gospel Strings will appear at a benefit concert for Stanley Early, who is fighting cancer, tonight at 7 at Faith Baptist Church on West Main Street in Salem. Carl Ratcliffe, 382-4654.

The Blacksburg Jewish Community Center at Church and East Roanoke streets will have a Hanukkah sale on Dec. 3 from noon to 2 p.m. Menorahs, candles, chocolate coins, dreidels, wrapping paper, books, games and candy will be on sale. Marcia Shumsky, 951-3145.

The ``Sonshiners'' Ladies Ministry of Full Gospel Grace Tabernacle on Noblin Street in Radford will sponsor a Christmas bazaar Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will include baked items, candy and crafts. 674-5382.

Newport First Christian Center's annual Christmas bazaar will be Dec. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafts, decorations, food, lunch and more will be available. 544-7264.

The Women's Ministries of Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church on Phlegar Street will have a fall bazaar today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. On sale will be handmade craft items, hot dogs and barbecue sandwiches, and baked goods.

Youths at Auburn United Methodist Church will clean houses, mow or weed. Donations will be used to go to a youth conference. 382-4318.

Christian Community Outreach in Radford has a food outreach on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn. Food boxes will be available first-come, first-served to families and others who meet USDA income criteria. 639-5686.
