BUSCH GN SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The NASCAR Busch Grand National stock car racing series, which will be in its 15th year in 1996, will contest a 26-race schedule worth more than $8 million, the sanctioning body announced Friday.

With a major increase in support by series sponsor Busch Beer, the series will have a total point fund approaching $1 million in 1996, with the series champion to receive some $200,000 in postseason awards.

The series will visit 20 race tracks in 14 states, with 16 of the races held as companion events to NASCAR Winston Cup races. There will be 17 races on superspeedways, and nine on short tracks.

The series will open and close in Florida, starting at Daytona International Speedway on Feb.17, and ending at Homestead Motorsports Complex on Nov.3.

All 26 races will be televised and broadcast on radio.
