BOONSBORO MAN SOUGHT AFTER LYNCHBURG ROBBERY

Police are looking for a Bedford County man in connection with the robbery of a Lynchburg bank last week.

According to a search warrant filed Friday in Bedford County Circuit Court, Lynchburg police searched the home of Bryan K. Watson of Boonsboro looking for money stolen Wednesday from NationsBank on Boonsboro Road.

Police found part of a $10 bill covered with a red substance in a car they believe was used in the robbery.

No one has been charged in the robbery, according to Lynchburg Police Commander Earl Burnette, and police have made no arrests.

A witness said a dye pack exploded onto the robber's chest and stomach before he made his getaway in a gray Chevrolet Chevette.

According to the warrant, which was prepared by Lynchburg Police Investigator Raymond D. Viar, Zandra Little of Lynchburg called police shortly after the robbery to report that her gray Chevrolet Chevette had been stolen.

A witness said the robber got into a car with the same license plate number as Little's car.

After talking with police, Little admitted that her car had not been stolen and said she had lent it to Watson, according to the warrant.

According to the warrant, a hunter told police that he saw two people get out of a gray Chevette at Watson's house Wednesday. They dug around on the floorboard of the car, then ran into nearby woods, the hunter said. The hunter identified Watson in a photo lineup as one of the two people he saw running from the car.

Police towed Little's Chevette from Watson's yard and found the $10 bill fragment inside.

The NationsBank robbery was the second of three bank robberies in Lynchburg in less than three weeks.

Two men robbed First Virginia Bank last Friday. One resembles the description of the Boonsboro bank robber.
