EX-LEADER, EXECUTIVES INDICTED

Former President Roh Tae-woo was indicted today in a corruption case that could change South Korea's turbulent political landscape.

Also indicted today in connection with Roh's $650 million slush fund were three of his aides, accused of helping the former president collect illegal political funds, and 24 businessmen, who allegedly swapped bribes for government contracts and favors.

If convicted, Roh could draw 10 years to life in prison. The others, who were indicted without arrest, could face up to five years in prison.

Roh, president in 1988-93, was arrested Nov. 16 after admitting tearfully on live national TV that he received money from businessmen for a $650 million slush fund he amassed while in office. He claimed the money was donated.

The 24 indicted businessmen are a Who's Who of South Korea's business world, including heads of the Samsung, Hyundai, LG and Daewoo conglomerates.
