WOMAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY CAR

A woman died Thursday night after being hit by a car at the intersection of Kingsmill and Queensmill drives in Roanoke County, near the Roanoke River just outside of Salem.

Roanoke County Police Lt. T.W. Haynes said he would not release the woman's name until her relatives were notified.

A juvenile was driving on Kingsmill Drive about 8:30 when the accident occurred, Haynes said.

It is uncertain whether the woman was hit from behind or from the side while she was walking on the road, Haynes said.

The case is under investigation; no charges had been filed Thursday night.
