Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate the third week of advent with Mass today at 5 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. Readings will be Isaiah 35:1-6, 10; James 5:7-10; Matthew 11:2-11; Isaiah 61:1. Also, on Tuesday, the church will have a special reconciliation Mass at 7 p.m. 382-8028.
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley on Gladewood Road in Blacksburg will present Chris Faulconer, who will give an interpretation of the Holy Family at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. At 8:45 a.m., Barbara Taylor, a professional astrologer, will talk about "Serious Astrology" during a roundtable discussion. The church's Christmas Eve service will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 24. 552-2717.
Christiansburg Church of the Brethren on South Franklin Street will have a Christmas cantata during its morning worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday, and a children's Christmas program at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, the church will have a Christmas candlelight service at 7:30 p.m., with a nursery provided.

Blacksburg United Methodist Church on the corner of Lee and Church Streets will have a live nativity scene Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 24, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The church will hold two Christmas Even services, a service of worship, music and celebration for families at 5 p.m. and a service of scripture, carols, candles and Holy Communion at 8 p.m.
St. Peter's Anglican Church on West First Street in Christiansburg will observe the fourth Sunday of Advent at 8:20 a.m. Christmas Eve, followed by morning prayer and celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 8:30 and 10 a.m. Later that day the church will conduct a carol service at 10:30 p.m. and a Holy Eucharist celebration at 11 p.m. On Christmas Day, the church will celebrate the Holy Eucharist at 11 a.m. 382-5246.

Valley Presbyterian Church on Robert Street in Narrows will conduct Christmas Eve services at 11 a.m. with performances by the adult and children's choirs and message from Pastor Don Clements. At 6 p.m. the church will have its candlelight service, featuring lessons and carols.
First Christian Church on Tyler Avenue in Radford will have a children's musical Christmas celebration Sunday at 11 a.m., followed by a Christmas pageant and party at 7 p.m. 639-3288.
Christ Episcopal Church on Church Street in Blacksburg will have a Christmas Pageant and Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. Christmas Eve, followed by the Greening of the Church. Midway Baptist Church in Ironto will perform a Christmas play "Another Babe of Bethlehem" Dec. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church on Merrimac Road in Blacksburg will present its Christmas program Sunday at 7 p.m., featuring a play performed by children called "A Heavenly Christmas," and a musical drama, "A Smokey Mountain Christmas: The Gift."
Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street in Christiansburg conducts an new informal evening worship Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The 45-minute service is for people who work on weekends, community newcomers, and people looking for a mid-week worship opportunity. 382-2223.

The Music Ministry of Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg will present "Go Change the World - An Angelic Celebration," Saturday through Monday at 7:30 each night. The musical pageant depicts the life of Jesus and features music and drama by more than 100 church members. Nursery care will be provided. The Blacksburg Jewish Community Center will have a Hanukkah party Sunday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Recreation Center. The event will feature singing and children's activities. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish to share. For members, tickets are $4 for adults and students, and $2 for children. For nonmembers, tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for children. Members of St. Peter's Anglican Church elected three new members of the vestry at the annual parish meeting Dec. 10. The new members are Robert Frary, Philip Pappas, and Donna Pero, who will serve three-year terms. They replace Robert Gill, Philip Williams and Seth Williamson, whose terms have expired.
