Northern Arizona 80, Virginia Tech 50: Maria Von Bromssen scored 17 points and Sarai Hoopes added 14 points as the Lumberjacks routed the Hokies in the first round of the Woodlands Plaza Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Virginia Tech (0-5) and Northern Arizona (4-3) were tied 7-7 after Tech's Michelle Hollister made a free throw with 15:34 left in the first half, but the Lumberjacks went on a 15-2 run over the next 5:41 to take control. After Northern Arizona's Shaunice Warr, a native of Salem, hit the front end of a one-and-one, the Lumberjacks led 22-9. Warr finished with five points.

Hollister, who had nine points, a career-high 15 rebounds and three blocks, was the lone bright spot for the Hokies. Virginia Tech shot just 34 percent from the field and 48 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hokies will face the loser of the Florida-Illinois contest today at 7:30 p.m. in the tournament's consolation game.

No.6 Virginia 81, Northeastern 20: Freshman center Demya Walker scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Cavaliers extended their home winning streak to 60 games, second only to Tennessee's 68.

Virginia (5-2) got 13 points and six assists from Tora Suber, while Wendy Palmer and Monick Foote added 12 points apiece.

The Cavaliers held the Huskies (2-6) without a point for 17 minutes of the first half, scoring 33 unanswered points after the game was tied at 4-4 one minute in. UVa led 41-8 at the half.

Betsy Palecek led the Huskies with six points, while Machanda Meredith grabbed nine rebounds.
