LONE MISS HURTS IN NARROWS LOSS

Bryan Pruett had made all 13 of his free throws, but the one he missed left the gate open for James Monroe (W.Va.) to rally for a 66-65 last-second victory in a boys' game Wednesday night in Narrows.

Pruett had been fouled in the process of making a turnaround jump shot tying the score at 65. That turned out to be the last of his team-high 19 points. His subsequent free throw was delivered a shade firm. He made 13 of 14.

The Mavericks (1-2) seized the rebound and hurried to the opposite end where Shawn Agee was fouled. He made the first shot and missed the second intentionally to finish with 12 points. Mark Grigsby led James Monroe with 25 points.

Narrows (3-2) had been down by 16 points before fighting back behind Robbie Stafford and Joe Shipbaugh to regain the lead 49-48. Shipbaugh finished with 16 points and Stafford 14.
