HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION PICKS LEADER

CHRIS A. LUMSDEN, administrator of Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, has been elected chairman of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (formerly the Virginia Hospital Association).

Serving on the board with the Roanoke native is HOUSTON L. BELL JR., president and chief executive officer of Roanoke Memorial Hospitals; ROGER W. COOPER, president of Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion; STEVEN A. LESTER, trustee of Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville; and GENE B. WRIGHT, chief executive officer of Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg.

ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS

The American Institute of Architects has elected officers for its national and state boards: HELENE COMBS DREILING of Roanoke will serve a three-year term on the national board beginning in 1996. PEYTON BOYD of Harry McKinney Architects in Abingdon, will serve as secretary of the state organization, and PETER I. KARP, an architect for Virginia Tech, will serve a one-year term as one of three vice presidents on the state board.

KEVIN L. BERTHOLF of Architectural Concrete Products in Daleville and RICHARD A. RIFE of Rife Wood Architects in Roanoke will serve as directors, and DONALD R. SUNSHINE, a professor at Virginia Tech's College of Architecture and Urban Studies who was the organization's president in 1995, will serve on the 1996 executive committee.

PATRICK M. MURPHY has been named an associate at Thompson & Litton, an engineering, architectural and planning firm based in Wise. Murphy has been employed by the firm since 1988. He primarily has been a project engineer for solid waste management projects.

BANKING

PAM NAVRATIL has been named president of First Union National Bank of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley Region effective Jan. 1. The region, based in Harrisonburg, extends from Winchester to Lexington and includes Covington and Staunton. Navratil currently heads the human resources department in the bank's commercial division in Roanoke. She has been with First Union for 14 years.

DEVELOPMENT

BRIAN T. DUNCAN, assistant director of economic development for Roanoke County, was elected the Virginia alternate director for the Southern Economic Development Council, formerly the Southern Industrial Development Council, for a one-year term.

DISTRIBUTORS

RON F. HORN has joined Columbia Supply Corp. as a regional manager of the Southwest Virginia sales territory with an office in Roanoke. Columbia Supply is a distributor of American Standard heating and cooling equipment.

Horn operated his own heating and air-conditioning business in Roanoke for 19 years. He also has worked with consulting engineers in Roanoke and Tampa, Fla.

LAW

DAVID G. WEAVER has been designated and elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Weaver is the partner in charge of the domestic relations practice at Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore.

MANUFACTURING

DAVID DRAKE has been promoted to plant engineering manager at Yokohama Tire Corp.'s Salem plant. He previously was director of engineering at Bridge Product ACD Division. Prior to that, he was manager of engineering at General Tire.

STEVE YATES has been appointed maintenance coordinator at the plant. Yates previously was a coordinator at Titan Wheel International Inc. in Quincy, Ill.

PHARMACEUTICALS

TARA BETH JANKOSKI has been appointed sales representative for the Richmond district for Janssen Pharmaceutica. Jankoski is a former health educator for the Virginia Department of Health in Roanoke.

REAL ESTATE

WALTER WHITE, vice president and managing broker of Owens & Co. Realtors, Roanoke-Botetourt office, has been elected president of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors for 1996.

White has been a full-time real estate agent or broker since 1986. He has been chairman of the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors multiple-listing, advertising and awards committees.

Other new officers of the association include DOUGLAS SAWYER, broker of Sawyer Properties, president-elect, and JOHN DICKINSON, associate broker of Hall Associates, vice president. HENRY SCHOLZ, sales associate with Hall Associates, and WILLIAM POE, vice president of Waldvogel, Poe & Cronk Real Estate Group, were elected to the board for 1996.
