BEASLEY, Pearl Gray Sutphin, 79, of Roanoke, and formerly of Radford, passed away Saturday, December 23, 1995 at Lewis-Gale Hospital. Born January 19, 1916, in Radford, she was instrumental in establishing the former bus system in Radford, and also named the Housing Development of Sunset Village. She was a great-granddaughter of ``The Saint of the Wilderness'', the Rev. Robert Sayers Sheffey. Survivors include 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Richard R. and Mary F. Beasley, Christiansburg, Edward H. and Eva S. Beasley, Troutville, Timothy O. and Harriet M. Beasley, Va. Beach, and Gregory P. and Janice H. Beasley, Roanoke; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Betty B. Basham, Shawsville, Richard C. Basham, Christiansburg, and Judy B. and Ronald E. East, Salem; 1 sister, Ruth S. Andrews, Radford; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Private memorial services will be held at a later date by the family. Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home and Crematory in Radford in charge of arrangements.

CABBLER, Earnest William (``Champ''), 66, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 21, 1995. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The Rev. Antonio Thomas will officiate, with the interment in the family cemetery, Rustburg. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends may also call Hamlar-Curtis on Monday for viewing.

COOKE, Dr. Albert Alden 88, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 24, 1995, at Salemtowne Health Center. He was born on April 12, 1907, and reared in Burlington, Vt. His parents were Rueben A. and Kate Barker Cooke. He received his Doctor of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Mo., in 1929. He had a family practice in Leominster, Mass., where he also was City Physician in the early 1930s, and was active in the Masons. In 1947, he had a D.O. practice in Worcester, Mass., where he was active in the Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis and Appalachian Mountain clubs. He had membership in the Alden Kindrid of America and Mayflower Society. After retirement, he moved to Leisure Village in Toms River, N.J., and later to Sun City, Fla., where he lived for 25 years. He moved to Roanoke in the fall of 1995, and was residing at the Park Oak Grove retirement community. He married the former Elizabeth Becker of Kirksville, Mo., on December 21, 1928. Dr. Cooke is survived by his daughter, Nancy Cooke Luce, and her husband, Robert M. Luce, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Moneta; his daughter-in-law, Melody N. Cooke of Rockville, Md.; four grandchildren, Kathleen Ullom of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., David Luce of Carrollton, Texas, Becky Luce-Clark of Cary, N.C., and Carolyn Cooke of Colchester, Vt., and one great-grandchild, Kelsey Elizabeth Luce. He was preceded in death by his son Richard A. Cooke, in 1994, and a grandson, David Alden Cooke, in 1984. Arrangements are by National Cremation Society. A family memorial service will be determined at a later date. Volger and Sons Reynolda Chapel, Winston-Salem, N.C., is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be made to any charity of the donor's choice.

DUNCAN, Leonard White, (``Lyn""), 96, of Newport, died Saturday, December 23, 1995. Born in Craig County on January 21, 1899, he was the son of the late Elisha White and Heneretta Hughes Duncan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Myrtle Smith Duncan. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Juanita (``Teto"") Porterfield of Newport, and Maxine and Phillip Marshall of Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Junior Duncan of Newport, Terry Ewell and Rebecca Duncan of Pearisburg, and Mario (``Bo"") and Patricia Duncan of Christiansburg; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Fuenral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 1995, at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, Blacksburg, with the Rev. Don McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Williams Cemetery, Craig County. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home

FIELDS, Lattie Lee Diamond, 88, of Galax, died Sunday, December 24, 1995. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel.

FRANCIS, Robert Chester, 87, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Saturday, December 23, 1995, at Westminster Oaks Retirement Village. A memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 1995. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Burial will be in Liberty Hill, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tallahassee Y.M.C.A., Faith Presbyterian Church of Tallahassee or a charity of the donor's choice. A native of Clifton Forge, Va., Mr. Francis worked for the Y.M.C.A. in Roanoke, Va.; Bogaloosa, La.; Rock Hill, S.C.; Charleston, S.C., and Tallahassee in various capacities including youth director and general director. He retired from the Y.M.C.A. in 1973 after 45 years of service. He was active in Rotary Clubs throughout his career, serving as President in Rock Hill, S.C. He served the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) as an elder in each of the cities in which he lived, and was an Elder Emeritus at Faith Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Richards Francis of Tallahassee; a son, William W. Francis of Tallahassee; a daughter, Margarette R. Kennerly of Brevard, N.C.; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Beggs Funeral Home, Apalachee Chapel, Tallahassee, is in charge of arrangements.

GLASS, Edith J., 87, of Roanoke, passed away, Sunday, December 24, 1995. She was a longtime member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church, where she worked for many years as church secretary. Mrs. Glass was the widow of Carol J. Glass. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Gloria Glass of Vinton, and a grandson, Jeff Glass of Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Joseph L. Lotts. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel.

GRAHAM, Emily Kesler, 95, of Salem, died on Saturday, December 23, 1995 in a local hospital. She was a retired elementary school teacher in Roanoke County and Salem for 40 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Salem where she was involved in many activities throughout the years. She also participated in several educational associations within the state. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell M. Graham. Survivors include a brother, William O. Kesler, Roanoke; a niece and nephew, Betty Jean Thomas, Richmond, John William Kesler, Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 1995 at 11:30 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, with the Rev. Thomas L. Joyce officiating. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning after 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 125 W. Main Street, Salem, Va. 24153.

IRVIN, Minnie Almond, 93, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 24, 1995. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church and a charter member of Victory Bible Class. She was a pa st state president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, as well as holding other local, state and national positions in the same organization. Mrs. Irvin was the widow of Robert W. Irvin Sr. and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert W. Jr. and Christine A. Irvin of Moneta; four grandchildren, Robert W. Irvin III of Austin, Texas, Ivy Prosser of San Antonio, Texas, Steven Irvin of La Quinta, Calif., and Kimberley Irvin of High Point, N.C., and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995, in Evergreen Burial Park, with Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

NOELL, Mary Fanning, widow of Thomas Jackson Noell, of Wytheville, passed away Friday, December 22, 1995. She was born in Bland County, December 31, 1904, the daughter of the late George W. and Lelia Grace Mustard Fanning. She attended Concord College and taught school in W.Va. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Wilderness Road Chapter of the DAR. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and the Rev. James Newsom, Suffolk; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas S. and Joyce F. Noell, Roanoke; seven grandchildren, James Holt Newsom, III, Norfolk; Mary Margaret McGinnis, Courtland, N.Y., Thomas Noell Newsom, Ft. QUESENBERRY, Harry Clinton, 56, of Dugspur, passed away Saturday, December 23, 1995, at his home. Born in Mont gomery County on March 22, 1939, he was a son of and Eva Sutphin Quesenberry and the late Harry S. Quesenberry. He was a former heavy equipment operator and independent trucker. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine Burnett Quesenberry; one sister, Mrs. Dan (Janice) Quesenberry of Radford; two brothers, Harrison R. (Mousie) Quesenberry of Christiansburg and Jerry B. Quesenberry of Radford, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, 1995, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, with the Rev. Elmon Thompson and the Rev. Alan Thompson officiating. THOMAS, Mary W., 77, of Lexington, died Sunday, December 24, 1995 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Ohio on April 16, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Fred J. Wertel and Edna Earl Starr Wertel. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and numerous other organizations in the community. She was a retired Executive Secretary and was the widow of Harold Curtis Thomas. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Frances Hamann, Bradenton, Fla.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995, from the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. William M. Klein officiating. Burial will be in Gibsonburg West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. WILLIAMS, Mary May, 78, of Roanoke, and previously of Stone, Ky., died Sunday, December 24, 1995. She was the widow of Garland O'Neil Williams. Mrs. Williams was associated for many years with Dr. Harry B. Stone's office, and later with Children's Home Society of Va. She was Past President of the Business Women's Association of Roanoke. Surviving are her nephew, James E. May, III, Roanoke; nieces, Mary Sue Seligman, Springhill, Fla., Jenny Lou Lusk, Orlando, Fla. Graveside service s will be at Evergreen Burial Park, 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 1995. The Rev. Walter Lockett will officiate. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
