HIGHLANDERS HAND BATH CO. FIRST LOSS

Glenvar rode a big third quarter to a 68-52 victory over previously undefeated Bath County in a Pioneer District boys' basketball matchup Wednesday night at Glenvar.

Bath County cut the Glenvar lead to two points twice early in the third period, but then the Highlanders (7-4 overall, 4-0 district) went on a 10-2 run as they outscored the Chargers 20-6 in the quarter. James Williams and Corey Willis combined for 15 points in the period as Glenvar took a 45-27 lead.

Highland County 70, James River 66: The Rams punctuated an 18-point comeback by outscoring the Knights 31-11 in the fourth quarter in the Pioneer District game in Buchanan. James River (0-3 district, 6-3 overall) got 18 points from Chris Firebaugh.

Patrick Henry 74, E.C. Glass 49: Boo Battle had 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals as the Patriots pounded the Hilltoppers (4-7) for a non-district victory at Patrick Henry. Brian Jackson scored 17 points for Patrick Henry (6-6).

Girls

Pulaski County 52, William Fleming 48: Sharmon Underwood sank the first of two free throws to break a 48-48 tie and Mandy Sexton scored off a rebound to seal a win for the Cougars over the Colonels in the Roanoke Valley District. Shaunarey Walker led William Fleming (8-3, 3-1) with 23 points.

E.C. Glass 56, Patrick Henry 25: Dion Cartwright and Brandi Drew combined for 24 points, one less that the Patriots could put up on the scoreboard, as the Hilltoppers (8-3) rolled over Patrick Henry in non-district action.
