NEIGHBORHOOD NAMES

JACK WALLER, a security guard with State Security, was named "Guard of the Year" during a Christmas dinner at Morningside Manor. Elderly residents said Waller,72 "helps in any way he can... that makes a difference when you're a senior."

HOLLY WEAVER, human resources manager for Lutheran Family Services in Roanoke, was recently named to the Board of Advisors of Bluefield College.

DR. ELEANOR WEDDLE BOBBIT, a Roanoke native and retired Longwood College physical education professor, has received the highest award from the Virginia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Bobbitt received the Pioneer Recognition Award at VAHPERD's convention Nov. 10 in Charlottesville.

The Award recognizes persons who have provided outstanding service to their profession and to VAHPERD; contributed significantly to the professional development of younger or new colleagues; and continue to serve as role models for other professionals.

THE BOARD OF BLUE RIDGE COMMUNITY SERVICES has elected the following officers for 1996: Onzlee Ware, chairman, appointed by the city of Roanoke; Pamela K. Cox, vice chairman, appointed by the city of Salem; Susan J. Cloeter, secretary, appointed by Roanoke County; John M. Hudgins Jr., treasurer.

MODERN WOODMEN OF AMERICA, a fraternal life insurance society, recently honored its Roanoke youth club leader, Teresa Callison, and Evelyn Edwards, director of its local Tiny Tot Service Club, with merit status.

The club participates in social, civic, educational and fraternal activities.

Judging for merit status is based on the quantity and quality of meetings, programs and community services activities.

ROANOKE SISTER CITIES LIJIANG, CHINA, has elected the following officers: Pearl Fu, president; Thomas R. Brock, vice president; Gailen Miles, secretary; Bo Zhang, corresponding secretary; and Pat Bijwaard, Don Meyers, Kurt Rheinheimer and Erping Zhao, directors.

Rodney P. Furr was appointed to the board by Salem for a three-year term.
