Inspirational speaker to address chamber

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce will host Donna R. Tyson, a popular inspirational speaker and president of D.R. Tyson Management Inc., on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Blacksburg Holiday Inn.

Tyson will talk on "Riding the Crest," or how to deal with negativity and stress, and how to rebuild after setbacks. Her talks, given to a variety of organizations across the country, are described as entertaining, funny and profound.

Tickets are $35 for chamber members and $50 for non-members. Reservations, due by Feb. 19, can be made by calling the chamber at 382-4251.

Christiansburg bank expanding

CHRISTIANSBURG - First National Bank of Christiansburg plans to expand this year with new offices in Shawsville and Dublin, to be opened by June 1.

The bank also is in the midst of construction of its new headquarters at the Marketplace in Christiansburg. The building is to be finished in December.

The bank recently announced a 65-cent cash dividend per share. The bank's net earnings were $4.7 million in 1995, an increase of $700,000 from 1994. Profits per share were $2.96, up from $2.57.

Legal secretaries to hold winter meeting

Legal secretaries from across the state will gather for the winter meeting of the Virginia Association of Legal Secretaries Feb. 3 in Alexandria.

Seminars are scheduled on elder law and legal writing.

Talk to focus on managing career

BLACKSBURG - Employment consultant Kathryn Jordan will talk about career management in the 1990s at the Blue Ridge Chapter of the National Contract Management Association Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn.

The cost is $12 for members and $13 for non-members.

Couple open new pharmacy

CHRISTIANSBURG - Allen and JoAnne Butterfield are the owners of the Medicine Shoppe pharmacy on North Franklin Street, which opened Jan. 22.

The pharmacy is part of a growing national chain of Medicine Shoppe stores that are locally owned. The store will carry only prescriptions and health-related items and will offer free health screenings.

Accountants group to hear consultants

BLACKSBURG - Two consultants involved in strategic corporate development will speak to the New River Valley chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants Thursday, Feb. 22, from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the Blacksburg Marriott.
