CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS

Barr-Wingo

Tamatha Jeanne Wingo and Andrew Patrick Barr were united in marriage Saturday, November 25, 1995 at The Church of St. Jude the Apostle in Atlanta. Father Edward J. Murray, S.M. officiated the evening service. Music was provided by Patsy Barnes, organist, and Oscar Periera, violinist.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an off-the-shoulder gown of silk shantung. The bodice was adorned with alencon lace, pearls, and sequins. A full gored skirt extended to a sweeping chapel train. Her handcrafted veil of matching silk shantung and illusion net was embellished with scattered pearls. She carried a cascading bouquet of white Stargazer lilies, dendrobian orchids, and roses.

Mrs. Lisa McGee of Stockbridge, Ga., sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Stephen Barr of Roswell, Ga. served as best man for his brother.

The bride is the daughter of Gary and Anne Wingo of Alpharetta, and Charlotte and Oliver Byrd of Roswell. She is the granddaughter of Mason and Mary Helen Wingo of Roanoke, and Bob and Bernice Carter of Roanoke. A 1992 graduate of the University of Georgia, she is employed by Heatcraft, Inc. in Stone Mountain as a promotions specialist.

The groom is the son of Charla Barr and the late David Barr of Atlanta. He is employed by Kennedy Tool of Van Wert, Ohio, as a district sales manager.

Following a wedding trip to Maui, Hawaii, the couple will reside in Atlanta.

Baughan-Lanter

Kathleen Ann Lanter and Robert James Baughan, Jr. were married December 30, 1995 in a Nuptial Mass at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. Father Kenneth Stofft officiated. The reception was held in Our Lady of Nazareth Fellowship Hall. The rehearsal dinner was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baughan, Sr. at the Hunting Hills Country Club.

The maid of honor was Dr. Patricia Lanter of Ann Arbor, Mi., sister of the bride. Bridesmaid was Jennifer Baughan of Massachusetts, sister of the groom. Guestbook attendant was Celeste White, friend of the groom.

The best man was Robert James Baughan, Sr., father of the groom. Ushers were John Houston McClung, Jr., brother-in-law of the groom, and Douglas Brannon, cousin of the groom. Ringbearers were Joshua and Jacob Andrews, friends of the bride and groom.

The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Kay Lanter and Mr. and Mrs. James J. Lanter of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Virginia Tech. She was a Peace Corps volunteer and served 2 years in Ganze, Kenya, E. Africa. She now attends graduate school at the University of Oregon, Eugene Oregon.

The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Baughan, Sr., of Richmond, is a graduate of Saint Benedictine High School, Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond.

The newlyweds will live in Eugene, Oregon.

Cargill-Bell

Mary Beth Bell and James Peyton Cargill were married January 27, 1996 in Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman officiated. The reception was held at La Maison.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her sons, Wesley and Andrew Bell. Maid of honor was Brenda Swain, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Susan Bentley, Vickie Benninger, friends of the bride, Leigh Ann Parrish, sister of the bride, and Sandy Parrish, cousin of the bride. The flowergirl was Jessie Carroll.

Ms. Massie Cargill, mother of the groom, stood in for her son's late father, Mr. John G. Cargill, Jr. as best man. Ushers were Dr. John G. Cargill, III, Mr. William L. Cargill, brothers of the groom, Mr. Steven C. Garrett, Dr. Steven A. Carroll, and Mr. George T. Garrett, all friends of the groom. Ringbearer was Wesley Carroll.

The bride's gown was made of silk and she carried a bouquet of calla lilies.

The bride is a daughter of David B. Parrish, Sr., of Roanoke, and Marlene S. Parrish, of Vinton. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and is employed by the law firm of Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove.

The bridegroom, son of Massie Lea Cargill and the late John G. Cargill, Jr., of Moneta, is a graduate of the University of Va. and Washington & Lee School of Law, and practices law in Vinton, Va.

The newlyweds will live in Vinton after the wedding trip to Warm Springs.

Dougherty-Patton

Marcia Frances Patton and Stephen William Dougherty were married at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roanoke on Saturday, October 28, 1995, by Pastor Mark Graham. Marcia is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Hasel Patton of Galax. Stephen is the son of Eileen T. Dougherty of Roanoke, and the late William L. Dougherty. The bride was escorted by her brother, Michael Patton of Roanoke. Best man was brother of the groom, James Dougherty of Pasadena, Maryland. Maid of honor was friend of the bride, Karen Patton of Roanoke. Liturgical readings by sister of the groom, Catherine Brown of Utica, New York, and friend of the couple, John Beach of Salem. Guest book attendant was niece of the bride, Dagny Patton of Roanoke. Special assistant was nephew of the bride, Jesse Patton of Roanoke. Special thanks to Toni and Bill Laurenson and Petie and Jim Cavendish, all of Roanoke.

The bride is a graduate of Virginia Tech and is a Program Coordinator with Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Department. The groom is a graduate of Virginia Western Community College, and is a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department of Lewis-Gale Hospital. Both are volunteers with the Salem Rescue Squad. The couple will reside in Salem.

Harvey-Polniak

Robin L. Polniak and Stuard D. Harvey were married in a candlelight ceremony in their home on Jan. 12, 1996.

Officiating was the Rev. Thomas C. Clay. The reception was held in Roanoke County.

The bride is the daughter of Jim and Kathy Polniak of Fincastle. She is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and is employed by Housecall Home Care.

The groom is the son of Norman T. Harvey of Troutville and Donna W. Chomicki of Lenoir City, Tenn. He is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and is employed by Berglund Chevrolet.

The newlyweds will live in their new home in Roanoke County.

Hix-St.Clair

Mary Elizabeth St.Clair and Kevin Michael Hix were married January 6, 1996, at 2:00 at Virginia Heights Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Daniel Scott officiating the double ring ceremony. The reception was held at the Hotel Roanoke, Crystal Ballroom.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Amzi Dudley, III of Fincastle, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvah Maurice St.Clair of Roanoke. Kevin is the son of Mrs. Catherine Almira Hix of Blue Ridge and Mr. Johnny Blaire Hix of Fincastle.

The maid of honor was Leslie A. Ennis, friend of the bride and groom. The bridesmaids were Jennifer Tingler of Eagle Rock, Karen Kessler of Troutville, Bonny McCoy of Roanoke, and Susan Milko of Roanok e, all friends of the bride. Miss Nicole Williams and Miss Haley Williams were flower girls, cousins of the bride.

The groom's father, Johnny Hix, was best man. The groomsmen were Darrell Hix of Virginia Beach, and Christopher Hix of Fincastle, brothers of the groom, and Shep Critzer of Fincastle, and Clint Barlow of Fincastle, friends of the groom. Keith Johnson of Roanoke, cousin of the bride, and Matt Ladenheim of Fincastle, friend of the groom, were ushers. Keith Johnson also made a scriptural charge to the couple.

The wedding director was Mrs. Phyllis Clifton of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. The guest register attendants were Gail Hix, wife of Christopher Hix, and Teresa Hix, wife of Darrell Hix.

Music was performed by Mr. Kevin Lamb of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Soloist Mrs. April Eidson sang ``The Lord's Prayer'' and ``I Will Be Here''.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore a Victorian gown intricately beaded with pearls and sequins which adorned the fitted bodice, sleeves and skirt. A double bow and peplem decorated the V back which flowed into a highly detailed cathedral train. The gown was accented with a satin beaded choker detailed with pearls and sequins. The bride carried a bouquet of white orchids, roses and ivy.|

The brides attendants wore floor length Victorian gowns of grape velvet and taffeta. The flower girls wore white taffeta tea length dresses adorned with bead and sequin appliques and lace petticoats.

Elizabeth is a 1991 graduate of James River High School and a 1995 graduate of Radford University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. She is employed by Finks Jewelers of Roanoke. Kevin is a 1991 graduate of James River High School and a 1995 graduate of Emery & Henry College with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Biology. He is employed by Combined Insurance.

The couple spent their honeymoon at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

McKnight-Lawrence

Carmen Michelle Lawrence and Andrew Leland McKnight were married December 30, 1995 at the Roanoke Valley Cathedral of Praise. The Reverend Harry Miller, Jr. officiated the ceremony. The reception was held at the Roanoke Airport Sheraton.

The bride was escorted to the altar by her father, and given in marriage by her parents. The maid of honor was Cyndi Bernard of Gatlinburg, Tn. The bridesmaids were Heather Scott of Richmond, Donna Whitney of Charlottesville, sister of the bride, Sarah Hunzinker of Hardy, and Laura Bryant of Springfield. The flowergirl was Allie Strum, niece of the bride.

The best man was Pete McKnight, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Paul Zahorchak of Roanoke, Jim Beck of Seattle, Wa., Peter McKnight of Charlotte, N.C., and John McKnight of Greensboro, N.C., brothers of the groom. Guestbook attendant was Amy Bumgardner of Rocky Mount. Coordinator was Pat Talton of Roanoke, friend of the bride and groom. Music was presented by Jim Brinkley, pianist, and Paula Miller, soloist.

The bride is the daughter of Tom and Mary Lawrence of Hardy. She is a graduate of Franklin County High School. She attended Mary Baldwin College and is currently attending Foothill College in Los Altos, Ca. She is employed by Wells Fargo Bank Corp.

The groom is the son of Betty Nantz of Vinton, and Pete McKnight of Roanoke. He is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and Roanoke College, where he received a B.S. in Chemistry. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in chemistry at St anford University in Palo Alto, Ca.

The newlyweds will reside in Mountain View, Ca. They would like to thank their parents, family, and friends for all their help in making this day special. Also, a special thanks to Denise of Just Friends, Mae Heath, Frank Shutters and Harold Bernard, videographers.

Nunley-Conn

Danya Conn and Michael Kelley Nunley were married on Sunday, September 10, 1995 at 4:15 pm at Temple Emanuel in Roanoke. Rabbi Frank Muller conducted an unforgettable ceremony. Bridesmaids were Jessica Buechler of Knoxville and Ingrid Weaver of New York City, friends of the bride. Ushers were Brandon Moore and Eric Hubble of Christiansburg, friends of the groom, as well as Max and Joel Conn, brothers of the bride. Flowergirl was Sarah Clark and ringbearer was Michael Barber. Guestbook and program attendants were Sara and Jim Giannecchini. Musicians were Kent Holliday and John Panepinto, with singers Ben Houseknecht and Wendy Humphreys. The reception and dinner dance were held at the Patrick Henry Hotel in Roanoke. The bride, daughter of Judith and David Conn of Blacksburg, is a graduate of Virginia Tech, receiving an Honors degree in Gerontology this past May. She is currently teaching dance and aerobics while applying to enter graduate school in pursuit of a PhD. The groom, a National Merit Scholar, received his Honors degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Virginia Tech, also in May. He is now gaining professional experience at a local engineering consulting firm prior to applying for graduate studies. Having taken their honeymoon in Jamaica, the newlyweds are presently living in Blacksburg.

Padula-Fields

Elizabeth Vaughan Fields and Robert Paul Padula were married Saturday, January 13, 1996, in First Baptist Church at high noon with Dr. Charles G. Fuller officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wellons Fields of Roanoke. She is a graduate of Radford University with a B.B.A. degree in Marketing. She was formerly employed by Astro-Merck Pharmaceuticals in Atlanta, Georgia.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Lucia Macione Padula and the late Domenic Michael Padula of Franklin, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts and his M.B.A. from St. Mary's College in Moraga, California. He is currently Vice President of Sales for Innotech in Roanoke.

The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. She wore a gown of natural raw silk embellished with hand-beaded alencon lace designed by Mon Cheri. The gown had a ""V"" neckline fitting off the shoulder with long illusion lace sleeves, a lace covered basque bodice, and full skirt falling into a semi-cathedral train covered with beaded lace appliques. The veil was cathedral length illusion attached to a headpiece which was appliqued and beaded. She carried a colonial bouquet infused with bridal white roses and stephanotis with ivory picote ribbon trailing, tied with love knots of stephanotis. Her maid of honor was Michelle Ranai Doss of Roanoke and her matron of honor was Tonya Craghead Gordon of Roanoke, friends of the bride. Bridesmaids were Kristi Rakes Britts of Roanoke and Linda Johnston Chalkley of Roanoke, friends of the bride. They wore a two piece suit, the jacket of winter white velvet with a long flowing skirt of silk chiffon. They carried bouquets of cascading stargazer lilies, bridal white vases and peach stock accented with tree fern and ivy.

Mr. James Carter of Burlington, Massachusetts served as best man. Groomsmen were Anthony Padula of Franklin, Massachusetts, brother of the groom, Jonathan Fields of Roanoke, brother of the bride, Robert Kenerson of Plainville, Massachusetts, brother-in-law of groom. Ushers were Steve Bennington of Roanoke and Gerry Burr of Dallas, Texas, friends of the groom.

The guest book attendant was Tonya Tilley Brown of Roanoke, friend of the bride. The program attendants were Jessie Sheffield of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Melissa Daniel of Jacksonville, Florida, cousins of the bride.

Mrs. Charles Krause of Roanoke directed the wedding. Mrs. William Fahrbach provided special assistance. Pre-wedding celebrations were hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ken Shilling, Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon Vaughan, Mrs. Lawrence Krull, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Gordon and Mr. and Mrs. Robin Chalkley.

The wedding reception was held in the atrium of the church; the rehearsal dinner at Alexander's.

The couple will make their home in Roanoke after a honeymoon in Aruba.

Thornhill-Boyer

Robin Lynn Boyer and Richard Lynn Thornhill, Sr., were married January 4, 1996, in the home of Rev. Joan Shannon, officiating clergy. The maid of honor was Brandi M. Watton, daughter. Bridesmaid was Christy R. Thornhill, niece. Best man was Benny K. Blankenship, a friend. The bride is the daughter of Jane L. Huffmyer of Roanoke and Robert L. Johnson of New Manchester, West Virginia. She graduated from Burgettstown Union High, Burgettstown, Pa. The groom is the son of George K. Tho rnhill and Hazel D. Thornhill of Roanoke. He attended Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, Va. He is employed by Raleigh Court Health Care Center. The newlyweds will live in Roanoke.
