ATEYEH, Anne L., 73, of Nashville, Tenn. formerly of Bristol, died Friday, January 26, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert G. Ateyeh. Surviving are her son, Philip G. Ateyeh, Roanoke; and three daughters, Louise Stark, Nashville, Lenore Lund, Beckley, W.Va., Laurel Ateyeh, Phoenixville, Pa. A memorial service will be held Tuesday in Nashville.

BAIN, Ethel Board, 87, of Roanoke, and formerly of 558 Dillard Rd., S.W., went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 1996. She was the widow of Dr. Eugene A. Bain, a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church, and was retired from the Veterans Administration Regional Office. Surviving are 18 nieces and nephews and spouses, Dennis and Katherine Dillon, Mary and Wilson Slaten, John Perry and Jean Dillon, William Herbert and Mildred Dillon, Reedie Junior Dillon, Jack C. and Betty Dillon, Gwin and Don Phillips, George and Margaret Board, Onley and Polly Board, Henry and Polly Board, Edgar and Ruby Board, Tommy and Avis Board, Essyebelle and Ned Hudson, William Nelson Board, Norman F. and Pat Board, Stella and Charlie Perdue, Gwynn and Eileen Board, and Geraldine M. Board. She was preceded in death by a nephew, B. R. Dudley (whose wife, Irene Dudley, is surviving). DEVENS, Derek John, 17 months, of Midlothian, passed away in the loving arms of his family on Sunday, January 28, 1996. He courageously battled leukemia for half of his short lif e and now is at peace in Heaven. Surviving Derek are his devoted Mom and Dad, Sheri and Tim Devens; his sisters, Michelle and Kimberley; his brother, Brian, all of the home; his grandparents, Dick and Connie Schultz of Cape Coral, Fla., Bud and Mary Devens, Blacksburg; ten aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins and friends. DUNCAN, Dessie Elizabeth, 98, of Radford, passed away Monday, January 29, 1996, at Highland Manor Nursing Home. She was a retired employee of the Radford City School System. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Radford. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth W. Gordon; and also by two grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Emma G. Cales of Radford; daughter-in-law, Opal Gordon of Copper Valley; three grandchildren, Ruby Gordon, Connie Quesenberry, and Loretta Phillips; five great-grandchildren, Alisa, Jody, Jennifer, Jason and Mark. HENSLEY, Charles Robert, 93, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, January 28, 1996 in the Woodhaven Nursing Home. He was born October 4, 1902 in Bedford County, a son of the late Joseph Emmitt Hensley and Evie Virginia Davis Hensley. His wife was t he late Minerva Jane Holdren Hensley. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He is survived by three sons, L. Carson Hensley, Huddleston, Clyde Melvin Hensley, Wayne R. Hensley, both of Bedford; two daughters, Elizabeth Christine Bryant, Carrie Odessa Ware, both of Bedford; two sisters, Viola Hensley, Nettie Scott, both of Bedford; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren. JENKINS, Irene Sutphin, 73, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, January 28, 1996 at Radford Community Hospital. She was a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Beulah Road, Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry O. Jenkins Jr.; and one son, Terry O. Jenkins III of Richmond. LAW, Wilber Gregory, 71, of Roanoke, peacefully entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 27, 1996. He was born November 27, 1924. He attended Roanoke City Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Law retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was united in marriage to Elsie M. Casey. To this union five children were born. One son, Wilfred Rodney Law, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Elsie M. Law; devoted children, two sons, Turhan B. (Dorothy) Law, and Cecil C. (Linda) Law; two daughters, Betty Jordan and Carolyn Brown, all of Roanoke; one sister, Lorraine Harp, Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Herman Law, New Jersey; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Dr. Alfred Prunty will officiate, with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. MARTIN, Ruth Robertson, 86, of Route #1, Narrows, died Sunday, January 28, 1996 in the Giles Memorial Hospital at Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on January 23, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Wil liam Mitchell and Gertrude Mae Robertson Robertson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Earnest Martin. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Narrows. She is survived by three daughters, Jackie M. Trent, Libby M. Smith, Linda M. Wilson, all of Narrows; a brother, Kenneth Robertson, Star Route, Dublin; two sisters, Ethel Bonds, Hillsville and Edith Reynolds, Narrows; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows, with the Rev. Jack E. Musick officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. MUNDY, Loyd Thomas, 94, of Gainesville, Ga., formerly of Buchanan, died Sunday, January 28, 1996, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, Ga. He was born August 14, 1901, in Buchanan and moved to Hall County, Ga. in 1977. Prior to moving to Gainesville, Ga., Mr. Mundy lived in Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C. He worked 38 years for the A&P Tea Company, retiring as meat superintendent of the Charlotte Unit. While in North Carolina, Mr. Mundy served as Deacon of his church, president of Baptist Training Union, Assistant Financial Church Secretary, Sunday School President, and President of the Men's Fellowship Club. His civic activities included Durham and Raleigh Chambers of Commerce, United Fund, Heart Fund, Easter Seals Drive, and Crippled Children Committee. In Gainesville, he had been a member of the Lakewood Baptist Church, active in his Sunday School Class, and member of the Golden Nuggets. He was truly a loving and gracious father and friend. He was a wise and proud grand and great-grandfather. Many people will remember his love of God and his church, his friend ly smile, and his gentle warm greeting as he walked daily at Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville, Ga. Mr. Mundy was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Camper Mundy; grandson, Scott Thomas Carter; and son-in-law; William R. Carter Sr. Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis M. PERDUE, Margaret Bohon, 85, of Salem, the widow of Taylor Garfield Perdue, died Sunday, January 28, 1996, at her home. She was a member of the Penn Forest Weslyan Church. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Gl enn Nolen, Roanoke, Shirley and James Dean, Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Marie Perdue, Ralph and Shelby Perdue, all of Wertz, Dewey and Macie Perdue, Roanoke; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Stilton C. PRATT, Ernest Eller, Sr., 74, of Ruckersville, died Sunday, January 28, 1996 at his residence. Born October 9, 1921 in Floyd, Va. he was a son of the late Harvey Eller and Grace Weddle Pratt. Mr. Pratt was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Navy. He was retired from John Linkous Motors and had worked for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority as a parking attendant. He was a member of the Ruckersville Baptist Church and a former member of the Charlottesville Moose Lodge and the Stanardsville American Legion. He also was a charter member of the Wheaton, Md. Rescue Squad. Survivors include his wife, Bessie Rebecca Pratt of Ruckersville; daughters, Mary Frances Parrott and Gale Rebecca Foy, both of Ruckersville; sons, Robert Eller Pratt of Fairfax, Va., Ernest Eller Pratt Jr. of Ruckersville; a brother, Irvin Pratt of Salem; four grandchildren, David Short, Darrin Short, Daniel Foy Jr. and Charlie Foy; and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Short; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Tulloss Pratt, a son, Daniel Wayne Pratt, a brother, Thurman Pratt, two sisters, Cleo McCarty and Beulah Britt, and a son-in-law, Daniel Brian Foy Sr. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ruckersville Baptist Church with Reverend Arthur H. RIGBY, Gladys Campbell, 89, of Roanoke, died Sunday, January 28, 1996. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Marshall Rigby. She is survived by husband of 69 years, Arnold Gordon Rigby; son and daughter-in-law, Frank Eugene and Connie Rigby; sisters, Alice C. LeGault, Ruby C. Miller; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 1996 at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. David A. Kirk officiating. SANDERS, Eva Mildred, 93, of Newport News, went to be with her Lord, on Sunday, January 28, 1996. Miss Sanders was educated in the public schools of Roanoke, graduated from the Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing, Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, and the Women's Missionary Union Training School in Louisville, Ky. She was a missionary to Nigeria, Africa, having been appointed in 1931. She was especially affiliated with the WMU of Virginia. Miss Sanders became the director of the Baptist Welfare Center, Ire, Nigeria. Her outstanding work was officially recognized in 1954, when she was made an honorary member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Nigeria was then a British protectorate). In her medical career, she delivered over 14,000 babies. In addition to her medical work, she served as missionary advisor for women's organizations in 22 churches of the Bethel Association and taught Sunday School and led in local churches on many occasions. She was elected to the University of Richmond Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in 1964. Her hobbies were African music and kindergarten work. Her work was the subject of two books, ``Tales from Ire"" and ``Bush Fire and Drum Song."" Also, she edited several books of musical songs. Miss Sanders was elected Woman of the Year in 1973-74 by the Beta Sigma Phi of the Roanoke Valley. Miss Sanders retired from the mission field in 1968, but remained a true liaison between America (Virginia) and her dear people in Nigeria. She came to reside in the Baptist Retirement Community in Newport News in 1976, but her heart was constantly in Nigeria. She faithfully taught a Friday morning Bible class as well as children's Sunday School until her health no longer allowed her to continue. She received her Doctor of Humane Letters from the William Carey College of Hattiesburg, Miss., in May of 1985. She was presented the distinguished award of the National Alumni Counsel of University of Richmond in 1980. Miss Sanders received the Scroll of Honor from the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for her services from 1931-1968. Her remaining survivors are three nieces, Mrs. Bertie (Suzy) Sanders Ashwell, Roanoke, Mildred Irma Sanders, Burlington, Ky., Mrs. Eugenia Sanders Hunter, Rockville, Md.; two nephews, Mr. Bernard Sanders, Roanoke, Dr. Felix Sanders Jr. Graveside services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Wednesday by the Dr. Charles Fuller. Memorial services will be held in Hampton at the West Hampton Baptist Church at 11 a.m., Friday, February 2, 1996. Contributions may be sent to the Mary and Elizabeth Project, WMU of Virginia

He was a member of Wariek Masonic Lodge #336, Newport News, member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Roanoke, and Kazim Temple. Surviving are his wife, Luella Binder Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Alma Smith, Lynchburg, Claude and Madeleine Smith, Roanoke; sisters, Cassie Rafferty, Gertrude Nichols, Daisy Wood, all of Lynchburg; and several nieces and nephews. Stowers, Marion Greever, Sr., 89, of Rt. 1 Crockett, Va., died Sunday, January 28, 1996 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Bland Co., Va., the son of the late WIlliam Steven & Laura Roxie Kitts Stowers. Mr. Stowers was a retired farmer and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmel Atwell Stowers and a son, Manuel Worley Stowers. He is survived by two daughters & son-in-law, Laura Mozelle Fulkerson of Metarie, La., Mazine & Bill Hall of Rural Retreat; one son & daughter-in-law, Marion G. (Buddy), Jr. & Frances Stowers of Wytheville; one foster son, Harold D. (Butch) Atwell of Forst Chiswell; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren & several nieces & nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 1996 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry M. Bollinger and the Rev. Dean Brewster officiating. Intermet will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services or the Wythe County Volunteer Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residences of his children at any time. TUCKER, Vera Thelma, 96, of Salem, and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, January 28, 1996, in a local nursing home. She was born in Sunbury, Pa. and was the widow of Harold Tucker. Survivors include a son, Jack Tucker, Fredericksburg; granddaughter, Terry Tucker Newman, Roanoke. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, February 1, at Grace Memorial Church in Fredericksburg. Local arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son in Salem.

TWEEDY, Charlie Warren, 72, of Roanoke, departed this life unexpectedly on Saturday, January 27, 1996 in a local hospital. A native of Gary, W.Va. He was retired from U.S. Steel Company at Gary No. 2, as a Supply Motorman. He has made his home in Roanoke for about nine years. He was a faithful and devoted member of Morning Star Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillian Hairston Tweedy; four daughters, Vivian T. (Lawrence) Griffin, Rockville, Md., Priscilla L. (Ronald) Padgett, Princeton, W.Va., Shenella Matthews of Mitchellsville, Md., and Charlene (Jacob) Phillips, Manassas, Va., four grandsons, four granddaughters, a sister, Evelyn T. Grayson, Washington, DC; mother-in-law, Elsie Hairston, Roanoke and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and his church family of Morning Star Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held 2 .m. Thursday, February 1, 1996 at the First Baptist Church on North Jefferson St. with Rev. L.A. Lewis, pastor of Morning Star Baptist, officiating clergyman and burial in Williams Memorial Park. Friends may call on the family on Wednesday from 6 -8 p.m., at which time a brief christian wake service will be held at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel.

UPDIKE, Margaret H., 70, of 323 Fir Ave., Buena Vista, died M onday morning, January 29, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born July 3, 1925 in Big Island, a daughter of the late John and Evelyn Hudson Hawks. She was the director of the Rockbridge Area Occupational Center in Buena Vista. Surviving are her husband, Lewis Updike of Buena Vista; one daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Lynn Morris of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; three sons, Charles L. and Janice Updike of Glasgow, James (Bobby) Updike of Lexington, Mark and Judy Updike of Waynesboro; two sisters, Ellen St. John and Fleda St. John, both of Big Island; six grandchildren, Kelley Jo McFaddin, John L. Morris, Callie Anne Updike, Joseph A. Morris, Margaret R. Morris, Will Morris. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, 1 p.m., at the St. Johns United Methodist Church in Buena Vista, by the Rev. Edward Johnson. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the residence. Contributions should be made to the American Cancer Society or the Buena Vista Rescue Squad.
