CHAPMAN, BOBCATS OVERPOWER NARROWS

Derrick Chapman had a game-high 28 points, eight rebounds and five steals as Radford swamped Narrows 69-48 on Monday in a non-district boys' basketball game at Radford.

The Bobcats led 32-21 at halftime and used a strong third quarter to pull away. Chapman scored eight points in the third period and Larnell Lewis had six of his 13 in the quarter. For the game, Chapman went 12-for-19 from the field.

Bryan Pruett and Joe Shipbaugh each scored 16 points to lead Narrows.

Carroll County 71, Richlands 40: Earl Johnson came off the bench to provide the spark, and the Cavaliers (2-14) built a 22-point halftime lead en route to a non-district victory in Hillsville.

Johnson, a sophomore forward, scored 15 points, Jeremy Ogle had 14 and Ryan Morris and Jody Edwards added 11 each.

Ryan Hublheinrich and J.T. Moore scored 11 apiece for cold-shooting Richlands.

Blacksburg 58, Graham 50: At Blacksburg, Philip Klaus scored 25 points and he and Michael Davis led an Indians' defense that smothered the G-Men in the second half of a non-district win at Blacksburg.

Klaus and Davis had the tall task of guarding Graham's 6-foot-8 sophomore, Mike Mullins, and the pair held him to just two points after halftime. Blacksburg outscored Graham 34-21 in the second half.

Klaus scored 10 of the Indians' 12 second-quarter points, as Blacksburg trailed by five at halftime. Randy Cross added 15 points and Davis had 10.

David Bailey led Graham with 17 points. Mullins had 10.

Glenvar 79, North Cross 40: James Williams scored 15 points and Corey Willis added 13 as the Highlanders routed the Raiders in a non-district game at Glenvar.

Glenvar jumped out to a 17-12 lead and coasted to victory. The Highlanders outrebounded North Cross 41-34 and forced 27 turnovers.

Forward Jeff Baetz scored 11 points for North Cross and center Jon Mull added 10.

Girls

Franklin County 51, Patrick Henry 47: A dismal night at the free throw line doomed the Patriots chances for a second straight win.

Patrick Henry, which ended a 65-game losing streak with a win over the Eagles on Friday, made only eight of 36 free-throw attempts in losing a Roanoke Valley District game.

Franklin County (2-11, 1-6) was led by Kelli Preston's 22 points. Penne Clayborne had 10.

Patrick Henry (1-12, 1-6) got 14 points from Carrie Moore and Keeda Hale.
