AKERS, Carlene Clark, 91, of 304 Fifth St., S.E., Pulaski, died Saturday morning, February 24, 1996 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, Va. She was born June 28, 1904 in Montgomery County and was the daughter of the late John Henry Clark and Della Clark Britt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, W. H. Blain Akers. Surviving are nine children, Charles Hampton Akers, Christiansburg, Clarbel Akers, Pulaski, Dorothy A. Ford, Winston-Salem, N.C., John D. Akers, Betty A. Linkous, James Kelly Akers, George D. Akers, Barbara A. Crockett and Janet A. Cundiff, all of Pulaski; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Monday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to the Heritage Hall Nursing Home Activities Fund or to the Montgomery Regional Hospital Activities Fund, address of both, State Route 460, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. BREEDLOVE, Robert Lee, 70, of Pearisburg, died Friday, February 23, 1996, in a Pearisburg hospital. He was born May 26, 1925, at Narrows, the son of the late John Daniel and Virginia Elizabeth Frazier Breedlove. He was a member of the Giles American Legion Post #68 and the VFW Post #6000. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Alvin Trivette of Pearisburg; one granddaughter, Melanie Rice of Pearisburg; one grandson, Keith Vaught, U. S. Navy, Norfolk, and one great-grandson, Logan Rice of Pearisburg. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Church of God of Prophecy, Narrows, with the Rev. Carroll Givens, the Giles American Legion Post #68 and the VFW Post #6000 officiating. The A. Vest and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

CAMPBELL, John Robert, 71, of 31 Vista View Lane, Ridgeway, died Saturday, February 24, 1996, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Henry County on December 1, 1924, to the late Alvren Base Campbell and Annie Richardson Campbell. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from the City of Martinsville Meter Department. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Martinsville and the VFW Post in Stuart. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie I. Campbell, in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Campbell of the home; two sons, Charles A. Campbell of Roanoke and Darrell W. Campbell of Ridgeway; a sister, Edith C. Boaz of Horsepasture, and five grandchildren, Robert Lane Campbell, Nathan Todd Campbell, David Trey Campbell, Shannon Williams and Susan Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel in Ridgeway, with Pastor Rick Labate officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Tomlinson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and other times at the home, 31 Vista View Lane, Ridgeway. COLLINS, George Ray, 64, of Salem, died Friday, February 23, 1996. He is survived by two daughters, Janice Lee Collins, Salem, Cynthia Collins Kite, Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Julie, Jamie, Jonathan, Jeffrey and Jacob Kite; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Rita Collins, Salem; sisters and brothers-in-law, Violet (Tink y) Irvine, Roanoke, Nellie and Calvin Overstreet, Salem, Mackie and Darrell Blevins, Roanoke; also numerous nieces and nephews. HALE, Hampton P., 90, formerly of Copper Hill, died Saturday, February 24, 1996, in a Vinton nursing home. Surviving are five daughters, Lillian Lamb and Gloria Campbell of Roanoke, Lois Wood of Rocky Mount, Joan Nichols of Callaway and Joyce McGuigan of Waldorf, Md.; two sons, Hampton Hale Jr. of Boones Mill and Douglas Hale of Roanoke; several grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Annie Waldron of Roanoke. HAMM, Roger William, 82, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, February 23, 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Baskerville of Roanoke and Hazel Scott of Anderson, S.C.; three brothers, J. B. Hamm of Roanoke, Robert Hamm of California and Eugene Hamm of Hampton; three sisters, Minnie Lee Tate of Pittsburgh, Pa., Eunice Talley of Detroit, Mich., and Wilma Blake of Bowman, Ga.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. HERNDON, Robert Howard, 61, died Saturday, February 24, 1996, at his home in Wytheville. Mr. Herndon was a graduate of Bluefield College and Lincoln Memorial University. He was a retired sales representative of the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company, a former school teacher and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a Deacon, teacher and active member of many committees of the Wytheville Baptist Church. He was the chairman of the Missions Committee that organized and started the Pioneer Baptist Church in Max Meadows. He was the son of the late Rev. Leffer Gilley Herndon and Mrs. Georgia Howard Herndon of Pennington Gap. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Herndon Van Dyke of Richlands. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Stinson Herndon of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, John Gilley and Patricia Herndon of Wytheville; a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Stephen Hirsch of Columbia, S.C., and three grandchildren, Robert Herndon, and Hannah and Tab Hirsch. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, at 2 p.m., at the Wytheville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Barry Losey and the Rev. Alan Mahan officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery. KNIGHT, Catherine Elizabeth, (``Sis''), 74, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, February 22, 1996. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 1996, 2 p.m., at the Lapsey Run Baptist Church, with the Rev. U. N. Broady officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. MARSHALL, Martin Edmond, 90, of Laurel Fork, died Friday, February 23, 1996, at the Twin County Hospital in Galax, Va. He was a farmer, sawmiller and retired from carpentry work. He was born in Carroll County, Va. to the late Edmond Waller Marshall and the late Iowa Stanley Marshall. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mamie Marshall and Grace Collins. He is survived by his wife, Eula Stanley Marshall, of the home. Funeral services for Mr. Marshall w ill be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. by Elder Richard Hurst and Elder J. M. MILSTEAD, Harold Grey, 68 of Salem, died Saturday, February 24, 1996. He was born October 1, 1927 to the late Roy Edwin and Cleffie Belle Stover Milstead, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Winona Marion ``Judy"" Snead Milstead. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry R. and Donna M. Milstead of Salem; one sister, Elva Milstead of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
